"Super Typhoons" To Batter Japan

Asahi: 'Super-typhoons' forecast for second half of century
The effects of global warming will spawn "super-typhoons" packing winds of up to 288 kph in the second half of this century, causing unprecedented damage to Japan's coastlines, researchers warned. "If a super-typhoon lands on Japan, the high tides could bring about more serious damage than that in the Isewan Typhoon," said Kazuhisa Tsuboki, associate professor of meteorology at Nagoya University and a member of the research team. The researchers from Nagoya University, the Japan Meteorological Agency's Meteorological Research Institute and other organizations said the super-typhoons will also be stronger than Hurricane Katrina..."Coastal structures will need reinforcement in 40 to 50 years. It is time to check dangerous places based on new environmental conditions, such as a rise in the sea surface," said Nobuo Mimura, professor of coastal engineering at Ibaraki University, who headed an Environment Ministry team on global warming forecasts...According to a survey conducted by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism in 2005, only 65 percent of the 13,792 kilometers of coastal embankments in Japan are high enough to handle tides caused by storms the size of the Isewan Typhoon...more...

Yes, the only way to be safe is to build concrete walls that are 25 meters high and 10 meters thick all around the coasts of Japan!

The poster Mulboyne, the free magazine Metropolis and one of his quotes printed on page 7...

Now his wife has spoken about interplanetary contact, it's time to re-examine Hatoyama's comment that "Japan is not just for the Japanese."

Interesting... We just had a super typhoon pass by not so long ago.

Lucky that it didn't hit anywhere, the destruction would have been pretty unreal.

Why are you bringing this up on a thread dealing with typhoons? Geez talk about thread hijacking:rolleyes:

At any rate, what happen in the later part of the 21 century doesn't concern me or for that matter all the breakwalls they have built around Japan as both them and I will be deceased.

Whether there will be an increase in the number of super typhoon is a big if, and given the topography of Japan it ain't going to result in a Katrina. But I must admit it is heartwarming to see the environmental shills and Japanese construction industry association joining together on this issue.

I was warning my Fiance about Choi Wan a week back when she went to Okinawa. It was a "Super Typhoon" but missed Japan.

You're absolutely right. My apologies. I was really excited and surprised at the moment and being used to GP posting styles probably got the better of me. Anyway, great thread. Keep it up guys!

How's that super duper Typhoon prediction coming along?

Postby Typhoon » Tue Nov 23, 2010 6:16 am

.

Kyodo: 2010 typhoon tally may be lowest on record

Over the last 30 years since the doomsday histrionics switched from an imminent man made ice age to man made over heating,
neither the frequency or intensity of typhoon (cyclone, hurricane) activity has increased.

I have pest control. I don't even see "ignore list" place holders. The only way I can tell an iDIOT posted anything at all in this thread is because the post numbers skip from #12 to #14. I don't normally look at post numbers so I live in bliss. Want the Greasemonkey script?

Blowjobs from cute females are always welcome, not into the bosensei style of things though. PayPal is not necessary.

I just posted a description of the script and quick installation instructions in the school holiday thread. Feel free to PM me if you have any questions.

"Songda" rattled us pretty good.

Typhoon Songda struck Okinawa head on Saturday. Wind gusts topped 110 mph. The city of Naha reported numerous wind gusts over 100 mph, including a peak gust of 113 mph. Kadena had a wind gust of 110 mph.

So far, at least 57 people in Okinawa have been injured. Five of those are serious.
