Good job, Japan! Not only did you NOT thank Taiwan, but you implied they're insignificant.

Looks like Japan did say thank you. What's the problem?

Hmmm, after looking at this earlier news, I'm confused.
Japanese thank Taiwan for generosity in newspaper ads

TAIPEI (Kyodo) -- Two Taiwan newspapers on Tuesday ran advertisements paid for by grateful Japanese citizens thanking the Taiwanese people for their support in the wake of the March 11 earthquake and tsunami disaster in Japan.

The half-page ads placed in the Chinese-language Liberty Times and United Daily say "Arigato, Taiwan" underneath illustrations of a red plum blossom, the national flower of Taiwan, next to a pink Japanese cherry blossom.

OK. I see now. According to a comment below the original article:
Advert was non-governmental and Individual Japanese donated to an organization to pay for the ad because the Japanese government did not.

Phwoar!!! Talk about causes of global warming....Dunno 'bout recycling or reducing with that bird, but I wouldn't mind the chance to put re-use to the test.

I'm not at all surprised, so typical.

It's especially stupid since Taiwan is pretty much the only place east of India where the Japanese are generally liked.

I do think it's pretty cool that some citizens took up the slack with those newspaper ads though.

Well, Taiwan is a delicate situation. After Nixon's visit to China and the ROC's replacement in the UN with the PRC, countries were pressured around the world to close (or rename) their embassies in Taiwan, and the ROC changed the official name of their embassies to "business and cultural exchange centers" in many foreign countries.

So expecting Japan to buck the overwhelming international trend over the last 40 years concerning Taiwanese independence is a bit much. I'm sure the individuals that posted the thank you letter to Taiwan received back-channel assistance from the Japanese foreign ministry.

Saying thank you ain't the same as recognizing them as a seperate country. Beijin can suck a dick. I can't wait till the Chinese bubble bursts.
