Takafumi Horie's T-Shirt Protest

T-shirt available here

On his way to prison, Livedoor founder Takafumi Horie was pictured wearing a T-Shirt featuring the "Go to Jail" logo from Monopoly, Underneath, was a list of company names: Nippon Credit Bank, Yamaichi Securities, Kanebo, Nikko Cordial, Yaohan and Livedoor. Horie was restating his point that all the companies have been guilty of the same or similar accounting offences and yet he is the only company executive to be sentenced to a prison term. Kanebo, one of the companies in the list which still exists, said that the unauthorized use of their logo was regrettable.

You can see Hiroyuki of 2ch standing with him, wearing the same T-shirt.

I'm sympathetic toward Horiemon because he's right in that no executives from other companies that pursued the same unethical accounting practices as he did have been jailed. He's clearly being treated harshly because he was a flamboyant, upstart maverick who flaunted his ill-gotten wealth.

But he acted criminally and must pay the price.

I wish this was the start of a crackdown against white collar criminals, but somehow I don't think that's gonna be the case.

Sorry Horiemon, but TIJ....he can at least take heart that at least in Japanese prisons you're not gonna have someone turning you into their bitch.

Horie could also have mentioned Yoshiaki Tsutsumi who was arrested by prosecutors and sentenced to 30 months in prison, suspended for 4 years. Unlike Horie, however, Tsutsumi offered a guilty plea.

I'll do his time for him in exchange for 50% of his net worth.

Is he still worth that much?

If you follow the link to that T-Shirt site, you'll see that sales have been suspended, presumably following complaints from the likes of Kanebo.

Like most companies in Japan, the truth has no place.
I broke a mirror this morning, which means I should be getting 7 years of bad luck - but my lawyer says he can get me 5.

Apologies to all those eating breakfast. This picture is definitely NSFW...in fact, it's not safe for anywhere....which is precisely why I'm posting it here, because I know he has soooooooo many fans.
