Yep. You're only allowed to defend yourself, but then you have to be able to prove that's what you were doing, rather than being aggressive. If the other guy gets hurt in the process, it becomes almost impossible to prove that you were only defending yourself. Be prepared to spend quite a bit of time at the cop shop in that situation. If your chick is Japanese, why not let him have it? All she has to say to the cops is chikan and it's over for him. I destroyed two Japanese and a foreigner in a club 2 years ago and their friends did nothing but apologize to me. Of course they did more than talk to my girl, one guy grabbed her and pulled her away from me (right in front of me) second guy boxed her in and tried to kiss her (I caught her struggling with the guys as I came out of the restroom) and third guy, the foreigner, he was just drunk and got in her face as we proceeded down a long flight of stairs. (He got there before all of us...on his face )

Worse situation is when you're alone or with other foreigners here, then you are literally a FG no matter how innocent you are. (like the video....but then if that guy was Korean, the cops just wouldn't care)

Finds himself in a joint lock leading him to the ground. Decides he can get out of it, to find himself with a busted arm. In the meantime drunk dudes' buddies have found him screaming on the ground. A rather large scuffle ensues in which my friend and his gal were lucky enough to be able to duck into a koban. Who's bad? Whitey, that's who. After an all night interrogation (while the construction workers go home), he ends up sued for compensation as the guy couldn't work with his bust-up arm.

There's nothing worse than a guy who starts a fight and then runs to cops when he gets hurt. What a fucking pussy. Your friend's girl should have kept her mouth shut though. I hate it when bitches escalate shit.

Anyway, again, I don't know why people are assuming the crackers in the video started the fight. We have no idea what happened before the guy started recording. The (who I assume was) Korean dude was the one touching them when the video from what I can tell.

The construction worker would have been ok, but tried to muscle his way out of a solid arm lock. If you fight against a well-applied joint lock, you end up with something broke like this construction worker. When the construction worker's crew mates showed up and tried to mob them, he took his girl into a koban for her safety. I'm sure Steve Seagull won't have needed to save his girl that way, but then again there's a story floating around that he's not so good with chokes! I do agree that his woman made things worse, but he was still nice enough to put her safety first. I'm afraid an exasperated comment to a guy publically peeing in front of your gal doesn't give anyone free license to put their hands on you or your woman.

And even though he had no idea that she was taken, he deserves to be beaten up. But if he happens to be stronger than you, then YOU are the one who have "lost".

Where I'm from and where I live now if someone just starts fucking with you you know it's bad. That shit is just a primer for physical victimization/ theft and so on. Unless you are cornered, your opponent is acting very threatening, seems ready to attack at any second, and is impossible to talk sense with, violence can be the solution. But in this situation, it's more or less self-defense. Of course you can't wait for him to punch you first.

1. actively seek them.
2. walk alone at night in a dark back alley in the capital, during the weekend.
3. are a total idiotic, with no diplomatic skills whatsoever.

When I wrote "use your strength to get him out of your way", I didn't just mean pushing. If a guy is "right up in your face", you can use other less dangerous(but equally effective) methods than punching.

Yeah, remaining calm is definitely gold. Only twice have I been close to getting into a fight. Both times my calmness "saved" me.

The first time, a teenager from a group of 10-12 people kicked me. I gave him a cold stare before I continued walking slowly away, without looking back. I wasn't alone, but we were heavily outnumbered, and would have been totally screwed if they had decided to beat us up.

The second time was in Japan. I had a discussion with a very aggressive guy who was way bigger than me. I discussed like a proper adult, waited for his retorts, didn't insult him, and stayed completely calm from beginning to end. He was obviously not used to it, and was ready to explode. People around us got scared, including the people working in the bar, who knew this guy was dangerous. Eventually, he went out to get some fresh air and cool down. Luckily, he never came back.

As I wrote later: I am talking about significant size differences here. The guy in the video is about the same size, but a couple of inches shorter. Still, mass is more important than height.

If you outweigh a man with more than 15 kilos and grab him before he has time to punch you, he must be a quite skilled fighter to overpower you. Being a light guy(185cm, 70kg), I know this very well. If I ever were to get in a fight, I would do my best to not let my opponent grab me, as I would have no chance in a fight on the floor. I'm not saying I would have great odds in a boxing/kicking fight, but at least I could exploit my speed, agility, reflexes, and long reach. On the floor it's only strength, technique and size. I have none of it.
