Luxury Insider: Cerulean Hotel's Manabu Otake crowned World Class Bartender of the Year 2011

Japan's Manabu Ohtake from The Tower's Bar has been feted as Diageo Reserve World Class Bartender of the Year. Also announced last evening at a jubilant awards ceremony in New Delhi were the Regional & Challenge winners.

Competing against 33 of their peers and judged by some of the most revered names in the industry - including such legends as Dale DeGroff, Salvatore Calabrese, Peter Dorelli, Gary Regan, Hidetsugu Ueno and Daniel Estremadoyro – each winner demonstrated deftness of hand, ingenuity, skill and knowledge of spirits in the pursuit of liquid perfection.

After the award announcement, they show him mixing his original cocktail, a pear-vodka mix he calls a Blanche-Niege. Kind of acts like a knob, but I guess if he knows his stuff about mixing a good drink...

Little to be known, but Japan has 3 of the top ten cocktail bars world wide in a mile radius... Ginza.

The Japanese power shake is fancy and good to watch. Not to mention how anal Japanese people are in general really makes a good cocktail.
