[floatl][/floatl]The Ministry of Education has announced that 35.5% of teachers nationwide are now over the age of 50, that's up from 28.4% in 2007. At elementary schools, the figure is 38.4% while at junior high schools, it is 34%. Reports in today's press express concern about whether this is the right balance for a teaching staff, in particular whether they are likely to be physically up to the task. I can only imagine they might be worried kids won't get Yamato-damashii sufficiently thrashed into them. One tweeter has suggested that the concept of a schoolgirl's crush on her teacher might now become a thing of the past or else take a creepy turn.

no... they have to do all the club stuff... even though the teacher just sits on their ass until it is finished.

i do say that it will be a good thing IF they get younger teachers on board as they will (hopefully) be a new generation of thinking... more internationalized?

I just don't want my hafus to be in front of some old jappy that dont really respect Japanese mixes... e.g. honmura elementary (just through various hate talk from other FGs... not through my own family's experience.)

Have your kids been hassled about not having black hair? I keep hearing about battles with teachers/schools from friends with mixed kids and even Japanese with naturally lighter colored hair. (Though so far, all have basically ended with them telling the teacher/school to fuck off)

My oldest daughter went through grades 1 - 6 in a Yokohama elementary school and never had one incident (that I know of). There were 3 or 4 other kids in the school with Caucasian parents which might have contributed.
She's now in 1st year jr. high in a countryside school where they have probably never had any haafu kids, and no problems there either. The fact that she is taller than everyone except maybe two boys might have something to do with that (and she gets straight A's so no problem academically either).
She did say that her ancient white-haired ojii-san English teacher has horrific pronunciation. Oh well, TIJ.

do they actually make her participate in engrish lessons or does she get to study something that is worth her time?

This is my experience too (in Tokyo). The kids aren't racist here at least not towards Caucasian 'hafu'. In fact, I think my kid would have a much harder time back 'home'.

I hear from alot of people that think mixed kids will get bullied by other kids or whatever but most kids seem to think it's "cool" to be half. The only real problems I've heard have been with the teachers/schools and their made only for "we Japanese" rules.

no problems with overt (or, afaik, even subtle) racism here at my kids' school in inaka.

as for teachers getting older, they'd do well to have a hiring freeze. in an ageing town of total population of roughtly 15,000, elementary school-aged kids make up a minisucle portion of the population as a whole and we therefore have schools that are kept open, maintained or even renovated, with total student populations of less than 20. there's no load balancing, so while some of these schools have tiny classes, my eldest is in a class of 34.

i'd be all for closing down the smaller schools, putting the kids on a bus and saving tax money to pay for more construction projects and flag wavers.

Well, to be fair, English is still a subject in English speaking countries. (not dat ne1 pays attn. 2 da teacha ) It's only here where students, like your kids, can make an ass out of the teacher's dismal comprehension of the language and even worse pronunciation.

I've met some real weirdo FG here that seriously lack social skills and yet get wifed up. Sometimes it might not have much affect on the children but then again, with a mother or father like that or some other extreme, (or just with family problems in general) it's not too hard to believe the kids social issues are the result of something else other than being half.

Sure thing, these kind of problems got nothing to do with the child being a haafu.
