Japanese Passengers Banned From Takeshima Ferry

Postby Mulboyne » Thu Aug 04, 2011 3:52 am

[floatr]Image[/floatr]Yonhap: Dokdo ferry operator imposes ban on Japanese passengers
A South Korean operator of a regular ferry service to Dokdo said Wednesday that it has decided to ban Japanese nationals from boarding its ships in protest against Tokyo's latest territorial claims. Seaspovill Co. said that all Japanese citizens will be indefinitely barred from taking its ferries departing from Gangneung on South Korea's east coast to Ulleung Island and the easternmost islets of Dokdo..."Our decision is to protest against the Japanese lawmakers' attempt to visit Ulleung Island earlier this week," said an official of Seaspovill..."It is in line with the government's will to sternly respond to the Japanese (government's) renewed assertion"...more...

"Some Japanese customers have tried to make reservations for our liner heading for Dokdo, but we turned them down, citing safety concerns," the official added.

and that aint no lie. I like how S. Korea does shit like this to Japan, but they may get the bad end of the stick when them j-tourists stop going to korea for tours... but i dont think that will happen cause it is probably safer than the other cheap asian cuntries to visit.

but if one of 'em gets on that boat... i wonder what shore he/she would wash up on. NK by any chance?

I doubt there is much J-tourism to those rocks but yeah, if Korea made a big enough fuss, they stand to lose alot if tourism takes a hit.

I wonder if they'd let Debito board.

The probably wouldn't let him into the country. If there is one country that tops Japan on xenophobia and the inability to separate "race" from nationality, it's Korea. They would take one look at his Japanese passport and think it's fake. We need a "We Koreans" thread, there is plenty of out there to load it up with.

Whenever Japan makes claims over Dokdo by commenting on historical materials or the San Francisco Peace Treaty, it reminds us that Japan does not sincerely reflect on its wartime atrocities; it is apparently not ready to become a good neighbor; and it does not want to march together toward a better future.

What if Germany claims sovereignty over a French island, which the Nazis took over in World War II? Would Europeans accept Germany as a responsible and reliable neighbor? Not a chance in a million.

Ehhhh, isn't Japan claiming the islands were part of Japan BEFORE WWII? They're geographically closer to Japan, would make sense...

As for the nationalistic/toxic debate, I've yet to see Japanese children drawing pictures of Japan dominating Korea over the islands...the same can't be said about Korean children...

We are saying half-jokingly that hereafter Japan might claim the Korean dish is in fact a Japanese one too.

That sounds like something Korea would do.

They have...been told by countless Koreans that Tonkatsu was Japan ripping off Korea's "donkkase."

Korea is wheeling out the big guns. South Gyeongsang provincial government, which claims jurisdiction over the islands, has appointed 14 year old American boy Jonathan Lee as "Public Relations Ambassador" for Takeshima/Dokdo.

But of course! Who else but a teenage boy would have the maturity and depth of experience to comment productively on such an contentious and delicate international issue.:p
