Pretty "modern" but what's with the dual single beds? Looks like it was set up for a married J-couple. You mentioned it's not bad long term, please post the cost.

Yeah, I've seen a lot of kitchens in Japan with the washing machine under the counter like that.

Does it come with a maid with lips that have their own gravitational field? I'm in a 55sqm series of boxes for 140,000 in two stops from Shinjuku (for all of youse who wish to stalk me)

That is outrageous.

I have 120sq m 2LDK in Yoyogi for 250,000.

My first apartment was 40sq m for 120,000 near Ikebukero.

Depends on two things: 1) how close to the station (if it's within 2 minutes, reasonable), and 2) how new is the building (if the paint is still drying on the walls, reasonable). Friend was living a 30 second crawl from Nishi-Shinjuku-gochome station in a relatively new 20 sqm box with her bf and dog for about 120,000/mo.

Tiny balcony; washer fits in the balcony with barely enough room to sit outside and enjoy a beer. Great sun and view of the neighborHOOD - not my neighbor. AC cools the place fast, and my electric bill runs me a littler over 4000 yen a month! Tiny room, unit bath and kitchen. Corner apartment so it's even more quiet. Very cozy for less than 60,000 in Kanagawa.

Most British households have washing machines in the kitchen and it's fairly common in some other European countries.

GG, it's really hard to say. As Iraira pointed out, there are a lot of different factors. If you're on the 20th floor of a new high-rise designer mansion near a major station that doesn't charge shikikin or reikin you might pay 160,000 yen a month for a 20 sq m apartment.

Ugh, I was supposed to move in this weekend, waiting for the Oyasan to return from his trip and either OK or deny my guarantor.... few days passed, I call the Fudoyasan, no answer, I trek down there after work yesterday and am greeted by a hand made poster saying (of course in the politest language possible) we'll be on vacation from the 10~18th. Assholes knew I had planned my move for this weekend and didn't even bother to let me know they'd just take off with everything unfinished. Fuuuuuuuuuuuuuu

Could be worse. You could be back in France where all the dentist would be closed till Sept. But at least you'd be able to get a decent loaf of bread.

and then you have to call for an appointment with a 5 month waiting list...

(something wrong with the private dentists in France... luckily the emergency ones are top notch, you just go, take a seat and wait few hours max, done in 5 minutes and you feel like born again... they cost less than a happy meal, but only deal with urgent cases)

crane? What floor did you move into? Back in the day, when I was a professional mover in the US, we would routinely hand hoist sofas to fourth floor apartments.

Sofas, fridges, pianos and the like, are routinely craned up to the higher floors (even from the 2fl).

Most moving companies of any size will have a crane truck for doing that. It is much easier that doing the block and tackle hoist with hand constructed joices...

Ironically, that's how I ended up in Japan...honestly.
Was hand-hoisting a sofa at my uni dorm, where I was working part-time over summer holidays. I dislocated my shoulder and got a week's compensation. Went from the doctor back to my dorm, entered the common kitchen and there was a gorgeous (Japanese) bird there: lust at first sight (later diagnosed as a terminal case of YBF), arrival in Japan together a few months later, marriage, taken to the cleaners and the post-arrival process has repeated cyclically for the ensuing few decades! Never get married!
