A friend has pointed out that sumo great Taiho had a Ukrainian father:

His Japanese Wiki entry notes that the baseball star Koji Oota, who played around the same time Taiho was active, had a Ukrainian mother:

Part of the great flight of all the white Russians to these areas of Asia and SEA that was originally started by some dood named Lenin and the Bolsheviks. There were several more in baseball, but the most famous was not a half, but a 100% Russian fg, who was known as the "blue eyed" Japanese. The first pitcher to win 300 games in Japan.

The late great Victor Starffin, who got run over in his car by a train on the Tamagawa line while full of the good sauce. A great way for an FG to depart.

[floatl]Image[/floatl]This is Kiko Mizuhara, who appears in the new film version of "Norwegian Wood". She's described as a hafu in the press but might legally be a full FG. She was born in Texas to an American father and zainichi Korean mother and was originally called Audrey Kiko Daniel. She was brought up in Hyogo prefecture with her current name after her parents divorced.

"Nicola Formichetti - born in Japan in 1977 to an Italian father and a Japanese mother, his unique style is a result of his upbringing: internationally eclectic; modern and traditional; Eastern and European."

- I saw this guy mentioned in an article about a weird fashion show (featuring heavily tattooed models etc.).
Among other things, apparently he's Lady Gaga's fashion director.

Rosa Kato will marry footballer Daisuke Matsui.

Kato has an Italian father. By some accounts, he met her mother while working at an Italian restaurant in Yokohama. She was born in Naples but grew up mostly in Kagoshima. While she apparently lost the Italian fluency of her very early years, she has appeared on NHK language programmes.

This is 18 year old Ayake Ide. Her father is Japanese and he married an American who came to Japan as a "roller skate dancer". Ayaka was born in a sparsely populated peninsula of Kushima, Miyazaki. Her junior high school had a total of 18 pupils and she was one of only five in her year. Her dad is a drummer and supported his daughter's musical leanings. Her grandfather on her mother's side is jazz trombonist Bill Watrous so there's a fair history of music in the family. She put out a mini-album earlier this year and one of her songs was used in a pharmaceutical company commercial. Here's a clip (not the commercial itself)

Here's a song from the album "Portrait". It's one her granddad likes:

Born of a Filipino mother and Japanese father, Mary Jun Takahashi on the left and her younger sister Yu on the right. Mary Jun is a Cam Cam model while Yu has taken the same path and picked up some magazine and TV work. If this thread featured every half-Japanese who had done a spot of modelling work, it would probably be more than ten times as long but these two do seem to be trying to make a career of it. And there's another in the family. 18 year old brother Yuji plays football for Kyoto Sanga:

Ann Curry's Townhouse Occupied by Homeless Squatter

The townhouse of Ann Curry, "The Today Show" co-anchor who is on assignment in Africa, is occupied by a homeless squatter, The New York Post reported Sunday.

....

"Ann Curry means crap to me!" the vagrant, who wouldn't give his name, told the newspaper. "The reason I lived there was because they chased me out of Central Park. I'll go back if someone says, 'Here's the key. Maintain the building.'"

During the Wellington, New Zealand, round of the international rugby sevens competition, Canada claimed some big scalps, including Kenya and France, although not enough to mount a major challenge. They have now gone out after just losing 21-19 to highly-rated South Africa. One of their key men is Nathan Hirayama who, in 2007, was the youngest player ever to be capped for the main national XV. His father, Gary, was also an international.

That might not be very far from the truth. Considering how minor the sport is in secondary schools and youth leagues, it's rather surprising to read about such good results.:o

Saw this guy, Genki Dean on the news the other day calling to his "Daddy!" when he got selected to be on the Japan Olympic team (father is British).
