Rugby Player To Get Moustache Doping Ban

Postby Mulboyne » Thu Jun 23, 2011 4:12 am

[floatl]Image[/floatl]Planet Rugby: Japan fly-half falls foul of moustache
Japan fly-half Ryohei Yamanaka is set to miss the World Cup after testing positive for a steroid cream used to try to grow a moustache. Head coach John Kirwan said he expects the International Rugby Board to hand the 22-year-old a two-year ban after he failed a doping test during the Asian Five Nations in Hong Kong last month. "He's got a hair-growth cream to try and grow a 'mo' (moustache)," Kirwan told Reuters. "Apparently he's done that and it had a steroid in it and he didn't know. Which is sad because he'll get banned for sure. It threw our plans a wee bit out because ideally for the World Cup you need to take three (fly-halves). He'll be lucky if gets six months. He'll probably get two years. I spoke to him at the time. I don't think he was aware of the severity of it. We spent 24 hours trying to find out what he had taken. It was a little tube of hair-growth cream. He just didn't think. Apparently he has failed the (B sample) too. From what I gather he's innocent but (the IRB) take a dim view. The difficult thing for me is that he's a young guy we were trying to bring through, hoping to take to the World Cup,"added the former All Black player and Italy coach. "We were hoping he was going to kick on next year."

It would be a far more plausible argument for a Japanese man to say he was trying to "get rid off" a mo, not grow one.

Modern Japanese men seem to abhor anything remotely masculine....which is probably why he plays rugby with all its scrums and lineouts and myriad other chances to grapple with his chums....

I'll never forget the tough All-Black who cried because his captain slapped him in the face with a handbag...

Yeah - he was found injecting this mostache liquid into his arm....
I broke a mirror this morning, which means I should be getting 7 years of bad luck - but my lawyer says he can get me 5.

It is the athletes' responsibility to know what they put in their bodies. The end.

If it's true that he really was just trying to grow a 'stache, it's fucking funny.

This is one of those excuses that is so bad that it almost makes me believe it's real. Almost. Sort of like Donald Trump's hair.

Anyway, I don't know why anyone even gives a fuck that athletes use steroids. It has zero affect on your life unless maybe you're an athlete who doesn't want to use them. Maybe the Japanese Diet should take up this important issue like the US Senate has.

Indeed, and that gaijin told him it contained no steroids. He was swindled! This is clearly a case of an organization unfairly being anti-Japanese.

Telegraph: Japan's Ryohei Yamanaka banned for two years over drug use despite moustache claims
Yamanaka, who has won just one cap at fly-half, tested positive in a random doping check in April during a training camp ahead of the Asian Five Nations tournament, and a follow-up test showed the same result. The International Rugby Board ruled that the substance was a steroid, either methyltestosterone or methandriol, said the Japan Rugby Football Union (JRFU) in a statement this morning.

The Kobelco Steelers player, who claimed to have used the cream to grow a moustache, was banned from the sport until April 27, 2013, said the JRFU. Yamanaka told rugby authorities that he thought the cream was a cosmetic product that did not contain banned substances, the JRFU said. Yamanaka, 23, said he hoped to return to the game after the suspension.

"It is regrettable that a Japan international was suspended from competition for violation of anti-doping regulations," said JRFU chairman Tatsuzo Yabe. "The player and the Japan Rugby Football Union solemnly accept the ruling," he said, adding that the union would make further efforts to educate players about doping rules.
