Air mattress repair?

Postby matsuki » Sat Aug 13, 2011 12:06 pm

Ugh, my U.S. bough air mattress has sprung a leak. To make matters worse, it's on the top which is covered by some sort of soft, fuzzy fabric. There are plenty of weird suggestions online on how to repair this kind of leak but not sure where to find most of the suggested glues/bonds/etc. in Japan :( Any suggestions?

Tire repair shop / kit

the standar neoprene glue is called G17 here. Work and smell like evry other synthetic rubber glue on this planet.

Shoe GOO is always easily found in sport accessory shops. I use the RC carbody repair version... excellent stuff...

I read somewhere that the tire repair kit wouldn't work as the rubber it's intended for is too different than the vinyl the mattress is made out of. Any idea what's in that glue you use to (reattach) rear view mirrors on windshields? I might need something that strong if the lemurs bring friends ;)

I don't know, what 'they' use, but i suspect it's special double side tape. Some from autobacs are transparent designed for glass contact. and as soon as this thing touch glass it's nearly impossible to remove, never seen tape bonding that hardly to something. Personnally i'd use epoxy because it enjoy sun hardening. But epoxy dry hard, think submarine outer hull hard...

I'd go with some carefully choosen vimyl from tokyu hands and some shoe goo...

If you'z in Tokyo, beware, 3 Tokyu Hands, one totally useless (Ginza Hands I think)

On in the building on the train station shinjuku... Not so great... (awsome for minicars and collectibuls if I remembers)

And the one in Shibuya (the one you want to go, best for DIY, they even sell wood)

I never bother with the one in Ginza but the one in Shinjuku sells wood and you may even get some free wood depending on the customers that day.

G17 with some shoe goo on top for added insurance seems to have held. Unfortunately, I snail trails on the couch last night though...wanted to make sure it was totally cured before testing it with a lemur.

ok, you did respect the proper modus operandi for G17 ? apply, let dry 5-10 minutes until it bubbles then apply...

Yessir, gave than about an hour to make sure it was cured before coating it with the shoe goo. So far, so well....until the next hole appears...but at least I'll be prepared :D
