On second and third readings, I get the feeling that Kosaka is in fact, shooting at Debito. Kosaka may also be trying to dish out his/her own statement on anti-Japanese problems, under the guise of the problems with the divorce systems.

It just seems to be a badly directed article purporting to be a book review, that supposedly addresses how bad Debito is at writing a book and that he has totally clouded the issue with his various stereotypes. Huh? A little PC thrown in to warn off detractors of the article? Sounds close to a BS call.

Ouch. Surprisingly nasty. Can't believe the newspaper carrying his column would also print that.

Preferred that banker's review on japan probe, tbh....

Kinda agree with you. As I mentioned, the reviewer is a female, I have since learned is married to a guy named Kosaka (Japanese, nisei, sansei?) and I have a feeling reading her review that she is portraying her views more than commenting on Debito's stuff. Some of her statements give the impression she is commenting from the Japanese point of view and if that is correct, she's way off base because she is not a Japanese. But the target is Debito and everybody shoots at him, so she probably feels it's okay. Her review is as bad as she wants to portray his book....

I have never been able to read more than a page of any of his stuff and I sure as hell couldn't imagine trying to get through a booksworth. Stridency is one issue, but the thing that makes him difficult to read is his almost high school level prose. I mean, when you have to boldface all the points you are trying to make, it speaks volumes about your ability to present a convincing arguement.
