The future of Shimbun Akahata, the daily newspaper of the Japanese Communist Party, is in the balance, says the Asahi (Japanese). Losses at the publication may be running over 2 billion yen annually which is a disaster for the party since it relies heavily on sales for funding. In response, the Central Committee has decided to raise the monthly subscription price by 500 yen, starting in September. I think that means it will now cost 3,400 yen, with an additional supplement if you want the Sunday edition. The last price hike was in 2000.
