Ramen -- Texas Style

While we're swimming in steakhouses and burgers joints, one dining category that the Dallas-Fort-Worth-Denton area lacks is the international cheap-eats culinary concept known as the ramen shop, specializing in the "simple concoction of noodles and broth" known as ramen.

Observing this vacuum, restaurateur Charlie Foster will open Ramen Republic in Denton in June, bringing college-student-friendly noodles to the University of North Texas community.

". . . culinary concept known as the ramen shop. . ."

What a concept!:jawdrop:

This kind of bothered me too. "simple concoction of noodles and broth" Takes years of practice to make a good broth. Texas fucktards!

Non-instant ramen is pretty hard to find were I'm at(Ohio). So when push comes to shove, bad ramen is better than NO ramen.

I used to be a ramen addict, but after learning about it's health hazards, I no longer inhale.

Other than a few select shops, even in LA, you don't have much of a choice for good ramen. (though good Pho is everywhere! :D ) Unfortunately, there are quite a few ramen shops that are mediocre at best, but the people around them swear they're the best thing ever....they've obviously never had good ramen ;)

I wonder if you'd feel the same if you'd lived in Vietnam.

I've heard the same thing about the ramen shops in NYC. My friends who've never spent time in Japan think they're great, those that have say they suck.

Touche, haven't been there but most of my favorite places were introduced to me by Viet friends who grew up in Vietnam. I think the difference is the large number of Viets in LA as compared to the small communities of Japanese. All the good ramen places are in the Japanese communities.

Southeast of Paris would be enough... In some part of my hood you could get USS Alabama only dubbed in vietnamese... (or any other movie in fact...)

The only ramen easily available in the states is so far-flung from real ramen that even the biggest fan of "oriental" flavor instant noodles wouldn't know good ramen if it was throw in their faces. Even in Japan the disparity between great and mediocre shops is large.

'Texas' anything and 'Ramen' anything are a combinations of words that is elicit much culinary passion with me. Ramen to me means emptying out your fridge of leftovers, and Texas is just putting stuff on a barbeque.
