Kawashima, Fukushima, Iwo Jima, Neutrogena

Postby Catoneinutica » Wed Aug 24, 2011 2:52 pm

Sorry if a thread on this topic already exists; couldn't find one. There's a tedious debate at JapanToday about Belgian soccer fans shouting "Kawashima, Fukushima" at Lierse goalkeeper Eiji Kawashima:

http://www.japantoday.com/category/sports/view/belgian-soccer-match-halted-after-fukushima-taunts

The comments seem to have bifurcated into opposing camps along these lines:

Camp 1: Oh, those Euro soccer fans are savages and proles.

Camp 2: Boy needs to toughen up! Take a few lessons in self-control from that French homo Zidane.

I say: everyone's a winner! "Fukushima" is absolutely fair game to taunt a nipponeser with; "we Japanese" are quick to take credit for our exceptional culture when it suits us, but when it causes disasters that fuck the planet up, well, how racist of you to blame it on Japanese culture. That was the thesis of some Japanese hack academic in the badlands of England a couple of months ago. He didn't complain when the foreign media was applauding the putative lack of looting by the stoic, restrained Japanese, but when the galactically incompetent reaction of TEPCO and the J-govt to the Daiichi disaster was attributed to Japanese cultural traits, he really got his knickers in a twist.

So: maybe 1000 square kilometers of NE Japan is going to be more-or-less permanently uninhabitable: own it, "we Japanese"!

-catone
-of course, the soccer fans should've taken pains to stress that they meant "Fukushima, the Daiichi Disaster," and not "Fukushima, the earthquake and tsunami." But that kind of nuanced approach doesn't lend itself well to chants.

And this is coming from someone that has lived in Japan for 10+ years?? Absolute trash. Granted, I agree about the crying, however, I would expect "normal" people to show some respect.

Kawashima had nothing to do with TEPCO. Majority of the Japanese population had nothing to do with TEPCO, except to purchase electricity from them, which I'm sure you do IF you live in Tokyo. Many innocent people are hurt, homeless, and in absolute devastation cause of the nuclear crisis; and many Japanese feel the hurt because we "CARE" about each other; maybe you could learn a lesson in that aspect you insensitive YANK.

BTW, 9-11 is coming up, who's the country that's been distraught over the Twin Towers for 10 years and counting? Who's the one that can't stand to see a mosque built near Ground Zero? How would you like to see someone from your country go play any sport in an Islamic country, only to find out that he/she was taking shit from spectators about 9-11, and how the all mighty "AMERICAN TRAIT" can't get over the fact that on September 11, 2001, the MUSLIMS kicked your ASS!

How's that make you feel? Grow up.

People died in both events. One was from a deliberate attempt to kill people (from multiple nations), and you mock that. That's pretty sick. Perhaps you need to look at the problems in your life, since they seem to be fueling a sense of hatred and an enjoyment in others' suffering.

Fukushima is not over in any way whatsoever, just look at the latest (8/21) video from Arnie Gundersen at:

http://www.fairewinds.com/updates

Gundersen also calls out to the Japanese to start accepting the severity of the problem, since they STILL are in denial over it.
Fucking disgraceful Japan, get over your "don't lose face" obsession and deal with it already!

Here's how bad it is: three corium masses have melted down/out so far away that they are boiling underground water which is coming out as radioactive gas out of cracks on the ground. Heh, it'd be hard to come up with a more fucked-up scenario for a nuclear cleanup project.

So i guess us bombing Japan was a "the YANKS kicked your ASS!" statement to the Japs and the other numerous natural disasters are all "boo hoo, lets weep and bitch like a puss" in your opinion?

but seriously though... him being in Japan for 10+ yeas means fuck all.

"normal" people? define "normal" then go hang yourself before you get too hurt by statements on the net...

best advise... dont read any of the BF forums...

I feel sorry for the Belgian football fans that a chant as pissweak as that was the best they could come up with. Even the Scots had Shunsuke Nakamura eating people's dogs...
Kawashima should toughen up, too. Being Belgium, at least these hot air Walloons weren't hitting him with something awfully phlegmish.

That rant was really pretty mild, but I guess if you think football fans should consider all aspects of the world sociological problems before they cheer, or chant, you might run into a tad of trouble in the pub following a match, or for that matter, while the sides are still on the pitch.

Just the quiet game of baseball that the yanks and j- people play has had three major injuries and one death in the last three months among fans confronting fans. No blood flowing does not count as an injury at these events.

If you choose to challenge sports fans, houligans, or whatever you wish to call them on their social graces, do it online, because if you call them and/or their team down to their faces, you might be the next 9-11 yourself.

Call it culture or call it the "majority of the Japanese population" but despite the avoidable crisis exposing the criminal negligence by TEPCO, there is still very little accountability on TEPCO's part. The heaviest burden is falling on those closer to the plant but we're all going to be paying for this mess instead of TEPCO or it's shareholders. The government, with it's failed attempt at regulation, has done nothing but insured TEPCO's survival rather than take control of crisis. They refuse to accept responsibility. Ignoring information, withholding information, manipulation, and simply not responding where their attention is needed. Then there is all the look the other way, everything is safe, PR bullshit from everywhere. Take a look here, the denial, coverup, and move on as if everything is OK mentality is everywhere.

http://mdn.mainichi.jp/mdnnews/news/20110822p2a00m0na015000c.html

This kind of bumbling, lack of performance, and in in some cases, downright malicious actions by a government in what is supposedly a democracy should not be tolerated by any culture, people, etc. but here we are with "We Japanese" at the helm and heading right into the rocks. I wonder how much longer this denial and other cover up BS will last before this ship sinks.

...so yeah, I have to agree with Catone's interpretation.

Stop with the innocent bullshit...

Not acting against something wrong is as guilty as doing it yourself. At least even the germans have the decency to STFU aboot Hitler rise to power.

Except for half a dozen scientist and engineer fighting years against the plants and Tepco while being ostracized by everyone else absolutely nobody acted against Tepco or nuclear power despite scandals and warning.

We never saw protestation until after it was way too late, before that, no convoy of nuclear fuel were stopped, no demostration, no voices.

So Fukushina blew, it was predictable even without the tsunami/quake. Don't come saying it was an unpredicatable act of gods.

As for the villages devastated by the tsunami, it's different, but so many decided to forget the history of the place and thescars of the previous tsunamis that... it was just a matter of time... but it was bound to happen, and it will happen again... Now some rationnalising idiot will come up with statistical analysis showing that the place will be perfectly sfae for the next 128 years, 3 months 6 days and 15 hours... and people will rebuild at the same place...

In europe you can't move a train of radioactive fuel/waste without hundreds of people chaining themselves to the train tracks or on the road pavement. Here you just here the bovine saying "but we can't do anything anyway" (and that would make us miss that TV show with some random idiot eating food in a remote shithole while making retard faces and saying oiiiisheeee)
