Swiss-Japanese boxer Aniya Seki credits 'samurai spirit' for success
Mainichi | Aug. 2, 2011
GENEVA, Switzerland --
Tokyo-born and Switzerland-raised, 32-year-old champion pro boxer Aniya Seki is a rising star whose pride in her Japanese heritage is strong.
After winning a championship in the Europe-focused Global Boxing Union (GBU), her next goal is to win a bigger title. Except for a single draw in its midst, she is currently on a 16-bout winning streak....more...

Ehhhh, her mama is Swiss and she lost her 4yo Japanese language skills after being raised and living most of her life in Switzerland. I don't mean to sound harsh but I know so many people like this back in LA, clinging on to some sort of stereotyped cultural identity based on where their parents are from...yet not really knowing the culture, language, etc. She might even still have a J-passport but if she makes it to Japan and loses, I think she'll find out how Japanese the Japanese think she is. If the wins though, she'll probably be touted as Japanese and there will be talk of how her success is directly linked to her Yamato blood being obviously stronger than her gaijin blood.

When she loses she will be in the FG boat with us again.
