an interesting idea...

Postby wuchan » Thu Sep 01, 2011 12:14 am

a few weeks ago NTT sent a guy by to tell us that they want to put a telephone pole in on of our fields. Being a FG I asked "what happens if I say no?". The NTT guy said I, the property owner, have two choices: 1. Accept the "rent" money or 2. they petition the town government to eminent domain the field.

This got me thinking. I have four TEPCO owned poles in my fields. NTT has the cash to beat me in an eminent domain battle but TEPCO probably doesn't.

I went down to town hall to ask about the TEPCO poles. They told me that I have right to refuse the "rent" but would TEPCO would probably try to fight me and I would "most likely" loose the battle and would loose a bit of land in the process. My response was "what if I rally other farmers and form a group..." At this point I was cut short and I was reminded that "foreigners can not lead a 'influential activity or group' nor could I 'hold a position of influence'..."

Ms. Wu supports the idea but she doesn't have time to take action due to her work.

How may people on FG have land and a spouse that has the time to lead a group of land owners to either get TEPCO to raise the "rent" payments or exempt those of us accepting "rent" from the coming rate hikes?

Lul whut ? I don't remember signing something even remotely sounding like this...

It's a clear case of "lawbook or it didun't happenz". And if they got it written... I'm ready to bet next week cheezburger money that the U.N. would certainly have a word to say aboot it, and not the kind style...

These terms would forbid any gaijin to be on TV...

Yeah, I'd like to see this in writing. Where is the law or ordinance that makes this clear?

Either way, you don't have to officially lead the group, just get the ball rolling.

Sounds like he's daring you to do something. I'm all for fighting the man... especially when it's the Japanese man, as what he does can only be deemed as fucking retarded.

I'd probably just take the rent to be honest, if I thought it was fair.

On a similar (but probably different note), didn't some farmer in Narita hold out until his eventual demise, owning land between runways? That's serious stubbornness. I was shocked when I heard it wasn't a woman.

TIJ, the amount of stubbornness is beyond shocking. What was his reason for holding out?

How does this affect people like Debito?

Oh that is right - he isn't influential so he doesn't rate notice.

He's also a Japanese citizen, so if he was indeed capable of influencing people the government wouldn't be able to stand in his way.
Fortunately they have nothing to worry about. ;)

I think that's the point. Just an old bastard that wanted to hang on to his birth right? Surely if I was old enough and the money was right, I would sell, and blow the money on coke and hookers.

It was something I heard, but heard it a few times. Take it w/ a grain of salt.

In order to work the "group" would need to be registered. Well that is what city hall is telling me.

Yes I could rally a gorilla group to tell TEPCO to fuck off but TIJ. Without a "leader" the japanese people will never do shit. I talked to a few people today and they all gave me the typical "shoganai" answer. They are worried that this years crop may be radioactive but they don't care about paying more for electricity. The city will side with TEPCO until a large "registered" group fights. Until there is a possibility of a long court battle they don't want to change the status quo.
