Japanese Media Having Problems With Japanese Politicians

Foreign media outlets are often criticized for misnaming and misidentifying Japanese politicians. It appears to show up their lack of familiarity with the language and the subject matter. Occasionally, though, Japanese sources are also caught out by the pace of change. Fuji TV's "Tokudane!" ran a feature on who will be named in the new cabinet including the likely Chairman of the Committee of the National Diet. They intended to show a picture of Hirofumi Hirano (above left) but instead ran a picture of his party colleague Tatsuo Hirano (right). Hirofumi himself put a call in and the presenters later apologized for the error. Perhaps everyone involved with the programme was distracted by rumours that Fuji intends to cancel the show.
