Wonder how many other kinds of weapons and other shit were being created (or tested) on their own people at that time. Bomb New York? That would have just pissed off the U.S. beyond all expectations...on that same note...had the U.S. really understood Nihonjinron, maybe they would have aimed to have the emperor assassinated or even nuked Tokyo/Kyoto to get him instead of Hiroshima/Nagasaki. They might have actually given up alot sooner.

The Japanese nuke program in WWII is reasonably well-known. It was run by a couple of blokes from Kyoto Uni (which is mentioned in the above article IIRC). I certainly didn't know about the Fukushima angle, so that story was great.

Japan devised some real doozies toward the end, mostly suicide shit.
