Sure. Everyone in Europe is riding around wearing a gas mask post-Chernobyl.

Directly comparing Fukushima to Chernobyl - September 07, 2011

The total radioactive release from Fukushima is currently estimated at about 5.5% of Chernobyl, which spewed an incredible 14x1019Bq.

So basically you are stating that since everybody was clueless at the time of Chernobyl, everybody should be even more clueless for Fukushima.

I'm from the people who think that once you screwed up not doing enough, next time bit of over precaution won't hurt.

You are not risk adverse, you are risk-blind. It's fine to believe you don't need seatbelt. It's no longer fine when you encourage other not to wear seatbelts either...

It's usefull to distinguish useful from useless safety precaution. It's highly criticizable to just brush off any threat or worry.

No. You're saying that.

My point is that the video blind is completely over the top irrational histrionics.

Friends this is looking a lot like the Book of Eli movie with that actor from St Elsewhere, when after the post nuclear apocalypse, the people start eating each other. Please be nice. Read some interesting posts and comments which seem to be the kind of websites you would enjoy and friends, as that actor from St Elsewhere said in that movie with Tom Hanks please quit "the homo stuff", and please do not go outside your little apaato or blue house at Sanya for your next eikaiwa lesson  , and I am sorry friends but the bars here in TM have limited places because the rents and prices here exist not just because it's a fine place to live eat and drink but to keep the eikaiwa peeps  out on Roppongi Crossing with our friends from Sub-Sahara - different strokes for different folks friends. Also Typhoon, your uncle from Europe said something you should hear and friends, be careful out there as you kiss your planned out eikaiwa careers/j-wife lives/life away from home goodbye. Have a peaceful day friends.

Do you have any advice for those of us who don't teach eikaiwa?
Are we more susceptible to the effects of radiation?

No, but when the food and water riots start, you may be in a better position. The eikaiwa folks will hang onto their 180,000 yen a month jobs with their fingernails friend - and let me tell them again - it is not worth it!

And in the meantime friend, here is the strange light referred to in the crticality article link I just posted for your very own peepers.

Friends, when you are out and about getting your 180,000 JPY a month teaching the English, make sure you wear a radiation suit, and please remember, it's not worth the money. I'm Tokyo Joe I have a lot of concern for you folks out there in Tokyo Land  , so please remember, if they have ruined my planned visit to the original Starbucks in WA state, then Tokyo is pretty much a gonner too friends.

Well here's a toast to you from me with some Suntory Hibiki, and friends, be patient and wait until the guvmint admit everything under the sun and start telling y'all the truth, and be sure to be ready quick on the trigger to your legal counsels around Tokyo Town, because I am sure you will all receive about 5 yens for your trouble for that apaato you bought at Ground Zero Radiation Town, and that career in the Very Exclusive Eikaiwa Industry that you dreamed about your whole lives.

The amount of radiation released during the Fukushima nuclear disaster was so great that the level of atmospheric radioactive aerosols in Washington state was 10,000 to 100,000 times greater than normal levels in the week following the March 11 earthquake [...]

Despite the increase, the levels were still well below the amount considered harmful to humans and they posed no health risks to residents at the time, according to researchers at The University of Texas at Austin.

Take care friends,

BTW, re: plutonium, one speck is lethal. EPA picked up specks of plutonium in their air filters in Hilo Hawaii the second week of April 2011, the next day they quit publishing isotope data.

It's funny that Tokyo Jackoff mentioned 5 yen. At the time of the 3/11 earthquake I was living in Yokohama, and our power was out for about 6 hours afterward (which is nothing compared to the folks up north though).
About 2 weeks ago we received an envelope in the mail from Tepco. Enclosed was a notice saying that Tepco regretted the inconvenience caused by the power outage, and that we could receive remuneration for the said inconvenience - for the whopping sum of 5 yen. Yes folks, 5 whole yen - I kid you not. I wanted to keep the letter for posterity, but my other half was so furious she tore it up and tossed it out.

Sadly, the radiation levels are written in garbled engrish and vague Japanese. :( On the other hand, the Denenchofu reading of 43,420 Bq/m² is less than my home in Colorado where natural background runs 50,000 Bq/m².
