Eel Swims Up Man's Penis, Has To Be Surgically Removed

It's every man's worst nightmare.

Zhang Nan, of China, was bathing with live eels in order to cleanse his skin when things went horribly wrong. According to Metro, one of the small eels managed to not only swim up his urethra, but actually made it all the way to his bladder.

"I climbed into the bath and I could feel the eels nibbling my body. But then suddenly I felt a severe pain and realized a small eel had gone into the end of my penis," the 56-year-old told the British paper.

The eel bath is similar to more common "fish pedicures" in which small sea creatures remove layers of dead skin.

Nan was rushed to the hospital where a three-hour operation removed the slimy little menace. Metro reports that by the time the eel was extracted, it was already dead.

Strange as it may sound, it's actually not the first time an aquatic animal has made its way up a man's urethra. In fact, there's an entire episode of "Jeremy Wade's River Monsters" dedicated to a fish that is infamous for such incidents.

The Candiru catfish, a vicious ******ian species, uses its slimy nature, much like the eel, to penetrate the human body. Wade details the excruciating event in the clip below.

Here's a Toyo Keizai article which includes a survey of major restaurant chains, supermarkets and food suppliers asking them what radiation checks they are conducting on supplies. The survey tables are on pages 5 & 6. This is all in Japanese. The main conclusion is that many companies are doing no additional checks and are relying almost entirely on the government to determine food safety.

The tables list each companies main product areas; what checks they have in place; what, if anything, they are checking for; and what response the firms enforced after Chernobyl.

Toyo Keizai isn't trying to be alarmist but they think customers would be heartened to know companies were doing more than relying on government testing. The magazine says the government has appeared reactive rather than proactive on testing which continues to raise fears, whether warranted or not, that contaminated products may be finding their way through.

A scientist has admitted having detected radioactive cesium in eels caught in a boundary river between the Tokyo and Chiba prefectures in March and having informed authorities promptly. Yet the expert claims the Tokyo and Chiba local governments took no action for nearly two months.
Officials from both governments explained that no independent study was carried out because the eels were not part of a commercial fishery and thus the fishers were probably not planning on selling the catch.
The governments also chose not to let the public know about the detection of the cesium even though local residents may have been eating affected eels...more...
