On closer inspection it seems that they have to demolish the building because of its age and condition, but they're looking into the possibility of rebuilding on the same site.

That could just be a roundabout way of saying "bye," but they are saying they hope to be back in time for their 50th anniversary.

Not that it'll make one whit of difference to me up here in the northern hinterlands, but I did live within walking distance of that store for many years (it was the only place that had decent turkeys for Thanksgiving) and it'd be a shame to see it go.

Maybe if their prices were down closer to the stratosphere they'd have gotten more business.

the worst of them all is the eigo whore j-wife who rolls with other fg wives to look "superior" to the other yamatoites and are complete bitches in and out...

If I can I will hit up the New Sanno or Fusa... but I need a sponsor to get signed in or have one of my friends to buy it for me when they get theirs... not always happening though...

I'm sure you can buy a turkey at Costco or Nissin (in Azabujuban). You could also order from The Meat Guy.

ESL didn't help me out at all... Never "learned" Mexican and Mexican is a fucked language anyway...

Sometimes when I speak I have the wetback sound... then the next couple sentences the drawl will come out... I have to keep in mind on how I sound sometimes in meetings cause some white people think i am taking the piss out of them and the latinos will think I am trying to mock them...

Thanks mom for making me sound like a hick and thanks dad for making me sound like a wet back and never teaching me Mexican (AKA Mexican't)...

I don't have a problem with National Azabu. I can't say I used it a lot from the mid-90s onwards but it was a godsend in its day. There just weren't too may places you could get the kind of stuff they stocked. Friends with young children thought it was an oasis.

I used it for wine, cheese, meat, sweets, biscuits and western toiletries. Some of their wine deals worked out cheaper than back home which compensated a little for the premium you had to pay on other goods.

I have to agree with you there. Prices are high but when you consider that they're importing small quantities for a niche market I don't think they're outrageous. Of course there's a lot more competition now but when I first got here in the late 90s it was great.

I'll miss them. About ten or so years ago, when I was up in Tokyo on business I used to love going in there to find stuff that was impossible to find here. Nowadays, the local supermarket has just about as good a selection of cheeses, and good beer can be found on-line.

Not exactly related to it's closing down .. but as one of the TV channels was just showing the benefits of almond and it seems like National Azabu is the only place to get freshly blended almond butter from the machine. I am tempted to try it now. Has anyone bought this before? I can't find the pricing online as well but I expect I'll have to pay more than what I pay for the same weight Skippy peanut butter..right?

Almond butter tastes great! :p (Although from my North American taste perspective, peanut butter is a lunch meal, but almond butter feels like a desert even though freshly-made almond butter seldom has sugar added.)

Almond butter is not a low calorie alternative to peanut butter. However, at least freshly made almond butter is not full of transfats, hydrogenated oils and sugar like Skippy. Any freshly blended nut butter (including peanut butter) is a much better health choice because it contains no added ingredients or preservatives. The downside is that freshly made almond butter goes bad after a month or unlike Skippy that has a shelf life longer than me.

BTW: Expect to pay at least triple the price for almond butter since the price of almonds is more than three time the price of peanuts.

PS: Be sure to try cashew butter sometime.

OK, I do have a blender. So basically I just need to add a bit of salt and vegetable oil and blend it huh? Thanks for the suggestion.
