Electricity

Postby Coligny » Wed Sep 28, 2011 12:10 pm

I need to change the electric distribution setup at home, but I dont want to go with in wall wiring. Could only find aircooling duct (*) at them hardware stores or ridiculously small apparent electric ducts.

Does it even exist in here or will I have again to order stuff from china ?

(*) can't use that, ther is no 3 way pieces when you need to go left and right in a room or at the junction of some corridors...

I wired my first commercial building before yo mama was born

Postby Taro Toporific » Wed Sep 28, 2011 4:38 pm

Duuuude.

Post a google image of what "conduit" you want.
Tell us exactly how many AMPs service do you have to the room(s) that you want to rewire?
How many existing outlets are there now?
How many outlets do you want?
    What is your budget?

Is this what you want???

Sort of. Actually we izza on the 2nd level of the clinic, former patient bedrooms level.

6 bedrooms divided in 3 fuse. each room have 2 outlets. daisy chained. That means for this part •1 fuse / 4 outlets plugs

Operation room + newborn washing room + tech room •1 fuse

Nurse office + maternity 5 oulets • 1 fuse

loo no outlet (th3 sucks)

lights corridor + loo •1 fuse

lights west bedroom + operation rooms •1 fuse

ligths east bedroom •1 fuse

lights nurse office + maternity •1 fuse

(FORMER NOW DEAD) Central aircooling fans 1 plug in each room •1 fuse

Main breaker for this level 75A.

Main breaker building wide 150A

Current subscription 50A (le MEGA SUXOR)

There is also 200V wiring but so random that I don't even know where the main breaker is for that thing or if there is any outlets at my reach.

BUT.

I don't want to touch anything from the former electrical installation. I just want to add starting from the original fuse panel.

1- 50 amp line going to the operation room (now workshop) for the machine tools

1- 50 amp line going to the former baby washing room (now computer servers room)

1- 15 amp star shaped line with matching ethernet wiring for the video surveillance camera and networking gear. Behind their own UPS who is actually only protecting the video security server.

1- 30 amp dedicated fuse for each bedroom in order to have 4 outlets in each room

1- 15 amp fuse to have a powerwashlet in th3 loo.

upping back the subscription to at least 100A

My fuse value seems to be a mess but are in fact in line with the use pattern. Big problem these day is that i'm building a plastic thermoforming machine. it need a 1500 watt heating element and a 1000w vaccum pump. That's just 25 amp total... but it's such a mess that I never know if I have them available at the level breaker, even less for the building breaker. Most of the time using just a 800w vacuum cleaner at the wrong time trip everything. (or mom with her 1200 hairdryer, lucky she got short hairs).

So the idea is to run easily serviceable electrical ducts (like split-openning aircon ducts) on the ceiling of the main corridor and wire as needed. I have all the tooling for the installation including long concrete bits for going through walls... I already did this in all my flats in Paris without any trouble. Electrical wiring is not exactly rocket science either...
But if I can't find the ducts... I'm screwed...

  • shim out the existing super-substandard, worst-in-world-quality, Japanese walls with
  • install proper vapor barriers,
  • put in real polystyrene or aerogel insulation,
  • use steel studs,
  • put up new drywall
  • employ a open baseboard ducting wiring raceway.

We're living temporarilly here... (just short of 6 years now... and certainly not going to move anytime soon)... That's the best excuse to be in a total mess, not organising or improving anything and not spending a single yen even for paint...

And anyway as long as she got a futon on the floor and the tv plugged it's enough for her... Even when I was a broke-ass student I never lived in such shitholes than since I'm in japan... Here it's especially frustrating since any modification is fair game... (ok, mum was a bit surprised when I turn the roof into a RC car test track, but since then she really got the habit of not worrying too much and read carefully any waring sign I put on the walls -she though the "beware of jet blast propellers and rotors" was just a decoration then she got caught in one of my rc helo downwash and the cloud of dust it created... now she's much more carefull...)

The second best excuse is "you have to ask dad" or "dad will not agree" which is just to make me blow my short fuse since the rules with dad are "do whatever you want" and "i don't want to hear aboot it" (the building being totally in EOL state, anything done to it could only lead to an improvment of some kind.)

2) For downloading all those Yua videos eh.
3) OK, so this is to make sure no one comes in unnanounced (when you're um, researching Yua)?
4) Of course you are. Who doesn't want their own thermoforming machine?

Seriously though, I've thought about making my own DIY CNC router, but really, a thermoforming machine?
Just curious what you plan to make (back in Canada I almost bought a primitive small one for making 3D molded sign faces).

Dood... i'm living in a 4 story building quite often alone with doors and windows that would not stop a moody toddler and 2 cats for only safety (that are even bigger coward than I am). Video cameras with motion detection are a necessity.

I mean vacuum thermoforming machine, not injection molding.

Vacuuform can use a lot of different plastics and shape (plugs) can be made with anything from wood to plaster or concret or even casted iron. You can do anything with this. From PET (Lexan) bodies for RC vehicles (resale value from 3000 to 5000 yens usually) to body kit for real car and custom enclosure.
