Hellz f*cking no. I'll leave it at that. Although I will concede In-N-Out fries are lacking.

Yes, sir. Indeed. The fact that the beef is fresh, never frozen alone puts their burgers on another level.

In any event, I know mentioning In-N-Out was not necessarily a salient comparison with regard to rating burgers in Japan, but it's good to stir up some conversation.

In-n-Out burgers are great. Their fries suck though. I do like that fact that they are made from a freshly cut potato but they need to figure out a way to add some flavor.

Chokonen,

That picture of that burger looks horrible.

While I don't think Carl's Junior is bad, I still think it doesn't hold a candle to In-N-Out...but I see what you're getting at. The quality of ingredients that go in to the burger definitely make the difference for me.

I had a double McRib today. When I asked for no mayo and extra BBQ the girl gave me the most confused look. The thing came and there was no mayo AND NO BBQ! WTF? So I asked for nugget BBQ sauce and she refused because I didn't order nuggets:mad:. In the end I got another, hotter, girl to hook me up with what I needed... five tubs of nugget BBQ.

Moral of the story: Get nugget BBQ sauce and cover the pork yourself.

I know that face... this is the point were you are sure that whatever happens it's not going to be good... Which is a bit depressing since they have a full protocol for customized order including a special sticker "made especially for you" to put on the wrapping. (I take my Double cheeze burgers without the godawfull pickle... never ask a rookie... always let the senior staff handle dangerous missons...)

This is what I'm talking about, "Never accept substitutions!" this why I would never get a Japanese sorry-assed McRib! Japan will never learn, soak that puppy in the thick sauce! They probably put tiny minced onions on that thing instead of those sweet juicy big chunks they put in the states, right?

In-n-out fries are good and they go well with that Animal burger for the nastiest of monstrous appetites. The reason why they taste maybe bad to you guys is perhaps because they are fresh with no preservatives. All you need is a little salt, that should do the trick.

Nah it's not that...because the fries are hand cut fresh they aren't soaked in water (or if so, not long enough) to leech out some of the starch which is necessary to get the exterior of the french fry crispy when fried in oil. That's why they have that limp, undercooked texture to them.

Nothing wrong with that. Less grease, less cholesterol, less calories. All around better for you. Love that pure potato taste.

Well cholesterol isn't an issue because there aren't any vegetable oils that contain cholesterol and In-N-Out uses vegetable oil like virtually every other place does.

I won't debate the flavor issue again, but another issue that affects the texture of In-N-Out is that the fries are fried only once. Most places blanch the fries in the oil at some point (usually before being frozen) and then fry again to achieve the desired level of crispness.

I'm not sure if you've ever had the traditional Belgian dish, moules et pomme frites, (mussels & fries)...well, if done well those fries are astonishingly crisp with the perfect fluffy interior texture. It's because the potatoes are fried twice, at different oil temperatures, lower first and then higher.

Here's an example:

That is funny. Well as with most foods, fat is flavor. I've only had them once in my life but fries cooked in duck fat are insanely delicious. I'm sure they don't do your health any favors though.

Anyway, didn't mean to hijack the McRib thread...carry on folks.
