Nice.

It's been years since I've eaten there...all I know is the roast beef is their signature product and that shiet is the worst tasting roast beef I've ever had the displeasure of tasting.

I won't debate the flavor issue again, but another issue that affects the texture of In-N-Out is that the fries are fried only once. Most places blanch the fries in the oil at some point (usually before being frozen) and then fry again to achieve the desired level of crispness.

I'm not sure if you've ever had the traditional Belgian dish, moules et pomme frites, (mussels & fries)...well, if done well those fries are astonishingly crisp with the perfect fluffy interior texture. It's because the potatoes are fried twice, at different oil temperatures, lower first and then higher.

Here's an example:

In any case, different strokes, for different folks.

Really? I love that stuff! Just had a "Giant" with curly fries last week and it's still just as good as I remember. :D

So...I just tried a McRib. The place was packed so didn't bother pulling a Wu and ordering custom. Dayam they cake on the mayo...the sauce was pretty bland. I removed as much mayo as possible and added some real BBQ sauce and it was decent enough. Will I order it again? Hellllll no...

Nah, man. I've just had been lucky enough to try different types of foods.

Regarding the discussion of fries, because it's one of those things that is so ubiquitous in American food culture people have such strong opinions about it...like pizza, burgers, hot dogs, sandwiches...you get the picture.

It's cool "chopping it up" about it though...

Well, on that note, I just made some home made hash browns with Okonomiyaki sauce. This talk about potatoes made my ass hungry!

Really? Alright then...I guess I stand apart from you on that one, man.

If I'm not eating it made with deli meat purchased at the market I'm dreaming of places like Phillipe's in L.A., with their beef dip sandwiches.

Don't get me started!! That used to be my weekend spot. I'll take that over ANY hamburger or Mc Rib, (sneaky bastard, had to throw that in there, huh?)

I agree, but don't just stop there! Why not throw in Canter's, Barney's Beanery and Jerry's Deli. You got me on a roll now!

Well well now, I love Arby's but Philipe's is on another level....

Best Beef/Pastrami/etc. sandwich I ever had was from this creepy German deli in Gardena though. I use the word deli lightly though as I swear they must be butchering the animals in the back...shit is so fresh and just  The old german women that run it are really creepy though, they remind me of Dan Aykroyd in Nothing but trouble...

[YT]Mnm0FILNb5M[/YT]

They also have about a hundred different euro beers at reasonable prices...I worked near there for 5 years and I still never made it through all of them.

Are you referring to the women or the beer?

I thought the naked sushi thread was the fantasy food thread?

"good Mexican food" depends on how much grease you want. Albertos in Costa Mesa is great going down the esophagus, but misery about 10-12 hours later. I'm doing my annual Xmas shopping in LA in December...will be super fat coming back. Last year, gained 7 lbs in 8 days....fuck Joey Chestnut!

The cheaper and greasier, the better...as long as it's mindblowingly fucking fantastically delicious.

It's a chain but if you want some solid Mexico City-style tacos otherwise known as DF style (i.e. Distrito Federal = Federal District) go to King Taco. Their red and green salsa (salsa roja and salsa verde) are fuggin' awesome. The various types of taco are incredibly delicious.

http://www.kingtaco.com/

This is a place where Mexicans go...it ain't no fuggin' tourist trap...and it's really cheap to boot. If they bottled their salsa and sold it as a stand alone product...that alone would make millions but they don't roll that way.

Another superlative recommendation that I can make is Tacos San Pedro in the city of Hawaiian Gardens...comes really highly recommended from a close friend of mine and all his brothers who are Mexican-American natives of Los Angeles who have discriminating tastes when it comes to store bought Mexican cuisine.

Their average Yelp rating is practically off the scale:

Holy fucking mother of God! Now that is something you need to have before you go to meet your maker. Das wat's I'm talkin' bout! Booya!

As for Tacos , tastes are very subjective, but I would agree, if you really want great Cali Mexican food, here are a few:

1. King Taco
2. Chronic Tacos
3. El Coyote
4. Enrique's Mexican
5. Most of the Taco carts driving through town, great tacos.

There are many others, but these are some of the best!
