My nose bleeds at night!

Postby Shibuya Me » Tue Sep 16, 2003 8:42 pm

Can anyone tell me why my nose bleeds during my sleep?

Sure I have a few glasses of wine at night...but will that cause my nose to bleed?

It also happens after drinking Chu-Hi.

This only happens in Japan!

What gives? :?:

Could be combination of the alcohol and your nose's sensitivity and something else.

It could be related to emissions from something near by. A foundry perhaps, doesn't matter how big it is. Another form of industry?

Maybe you're not getting enough vitamin K:

Vitamin K is needed to clot the blood, so without enough vitamin K people tend to have nose bleeds and all sorts of other bleeding problems - heavy menstrual bleeding (menorrhagia) in women, easy bruising, bleeding gums, hematuria, etc

Phylloquinone, the most common form of vitamin K,

Phylloquinone is found in some oils, especially soybean oil, and in dark-green vegetables such as spinach and broccoli

It also happens after drinking Chu-Hi.

Perhaps the alcohol is depleting your body of the necessary vitamin.

This only happens in Japan!

Probably just because you're getting older.

I blew my nose the other day and then it started bleeding.

But then again, I had a cold and I blew out one of those NASTY snots that only occurs when you have a cold.

Nosebleeds have great significance in Japanese Manga.

http://doomcrystal.tripod.com/drawingmangatips.html

All comic art is form of shorthand, a linear smiplification
of reality, but manga sports plenty of unique devices to convey emotions which you'll see popping up time and again. A few examples: the fountaining nose bleed indicate lust, the simplified cross of imminently brusting blood vessels to denote anger, or the single large drop let of sweat signalling exasperation or embarrassment. Sprinkle a few through your comic for that authentic japanese touch. Also study the style of simplification of things like high light s on hair, or complex items like explosions.

Yeah, I'm with Steve on that one. Maybe you should be taking a cold shower before bed? ;)

You've been in Japan too long. Everywhere you go you see salarymen picking their noses. When awake you retain your western sensibilities and show restraint whenever a bit of booger grooming is required. But whilst asleep your new Japanese subconcious takes over and you go at your nasal orifices like a crazed monkey.

Suggested course of action, cut your fingernails.

Wow....

Postby Shibuya Me » Wed Sep 17, 2003 11:56 am

:?

Thanks for some of your responses :D ....but I do not do drugs at all. 8O

My friend, who works at the Red Cross...said if you drink every night....like some stressed out Gaijin do...and your typical Japanese salary man...then yes, that can take essential vitamins away from your body. :o

This may be the case for me since almost every night one of my friends wants to go out and have a drink. :crazy3:

I think I will take a break from the stuff...

( by the way...I cut my finger nails every week....)

Do you sleep on tatami? If so, you're room is probably dusty, and dust will irritate the inner lining of your nose to the point that nosebleeds become commonplace.
