From what I've seen of housing construction in both countries (Aus and Japan), it's a fact that Japan has substantially more bracing using thicker beams and excellence in design in standard houses than Aus. Since 1986 Japan has been building to very high structural standards by law. If we ever get more than a 5 earthquake here in Oz, we're fucked.

I can find plenty of hovels for you to have a look at Rooboy!

Can't comment on Aus. construction but no doubt that some of the steel sheds here in Japan can probably withstand a 10.0....which is nice and works great as a commercial building...but I sure as hell wouldn't want to live in one.

I wish I took more pics of my friend's house that I stayed at my first year I moved here. Really basic model home, no more than 20 years old and the whole thing had tilted. Haven't been there since 3/11 but back when I stayed there, the doors had to be forced closed as the frames tilted with the house, and the lean could be seen throughout the whole house. Shit was pretty unbelievable but according to my friend, the builder couldn't be held accountable. (and we all know how useless insurance is here)

i just think its a combination of gaman, not thinking outside the box, and believing that japans (construction.. you name it) shit dont stink

seems like a lot of new bldgs are particle board everything, so when it crumbles, the person that lives there is "to blame" and has to gaman through. so tired of particle and laminate everything, acting like its new, good quality, and worth the premium price for fucking crap that isnt meant to last 10 yrs

that said, great variety and price of whisky over here, so that helps with the gaman.

that and i think japan is main country buying blue mountain coffee hype. And ive been to jamaica, love jamaica, and still dont buy it as world primo number one.

edit: didnt mean crumble in relation to earthquakes... but maybe that also.

Yeah, kinda difficult to tell with Jack. I wouldn't be at all surprised to hear (read) a "A friend of a friend of my great-aunt's cousin's cow's caretaker worked at Cal-Tech and he/she/it said that the oxygen molecules in Japan are so much more high quality than those anywhere else in the world." spewing out of him.

You can try changing the subject as much as you want but some facts remain. It makes you feel small because a yellow race country has better products than your wreched place, deal with it, fuckshit.

A very Bubble-jidai observation from you, Jack. That difference of which you speak isn't so large anymore, judging from how well so many large Japanese companies have been doing lately (re: Sony)....deal with it, anal friction blister.

Sony has been screwing up for years... like Mitsubishi (mmc/Fuso)...

The new kid on the block as far as screwups goes being Totoya. (not the sticky pedal drama, just the sheer numbers of technical recalls thes previous month).

Nintendo is not so bad either as far as downward spiral goes...

Let's not forget square enix...

But it's true that yellow race country still haz some better products... Like them Nissan... despite the fact dey are French...

Commercialism has killed the games industry here. Whatever was great about the big and small companies alike back in the 80's and early 90's is long gone.

Square Soft
FFVII = epic
FFVIII = epic
FFIX = epic
FFX = great... but went down hill a bit compared to VII ~ IX

Square Enix:
Crisis Core FFVII = not like your typical FF, but awesome.
Dirge of Cerberus FFVII = only liked it cause i like FaiFan.
FFX-2 = WTF?!?!?! it was ok
FFXI = MMORPG FaiFan? fail :doh:
FFXII = WTF? MMORPG style minus MMO?
FFXIII = :confused: what is going on with this MMORPG - MMO?
FFXIII Type 0 = is this still considered FaiFan?

Kingdom Hearts = epic
Kingdom Hearts CoM = ehh... ok
Kingdom Hearts 2 = epic
Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days = great
Kingdom Hearts BBS = wait... CCFFVII but with different story and graphics? epic

Just from the 2 above examples... FaiFan is spiraling but KH is looking better and better...

lets not get too detailed about the other games... I have faith Square Enix!

You left out their arguably best games in the series. IV - VI.
Never played them much (I did play VII and X just to say I did) but they slowly became interactive movies and not games. They are not the only offender, but they are definitely a leader. The Squenix of today (I actually heard rumors of a split?) is a perfect encapsulation of Japan. Something that once was...

intentionally done so as prior VII, they are what made FaiFan... VII is the "best of all time" as its game play was traditional, but was the first in the series to have (kick ass graphics + epic story). the newer games have graphics... but lack story... hence... interactive movie - good plot.

KH has always been good, never had a shit game, game play has always advanced, story has always been great, plus the twist they have with the Disney/FaiFan stories in it.
