In fairness I don't think anyone thinks Amy Winehouse is/was a saint...she died a crackhead, and that's what she was, her talent as a singer notwithstanding. Call a spade, a spade.

Good thing CEOs (and even just managers) in finance aren't famous. This is an industry built on grown men destroying computer equipment and dishing out verbal abuse daily.

I seem to remember that while alive most people were complaining aboot wasted talent by the booze rather than anything else... She was not declared 'talented' post mortem...

Lady Gaga is the flaming turd surviving in the news because of bikini made from raw meat...

The same way... Jobs was a hero for saving Apple in a spectacular way, with for only fatal flaw that he became the company. He didn't became a hero because he died.

As usual, when there is some light to be stolen every body tries to be in the first line to catch most of it... it's like a Munchausen syndrome by proxy without the guilt of having to make the baby cry...

But in this day, all it takes is a cameraphone recording of one of these types going nuts to take him out and humiliate him for the rest of his career/life.

Or get a raise. The bottom line in finance is the same as it was at Apple: results talk. This is nothing new, and not really a secret.

So how come when things went belly up in 2008 none of the senior management in the major investment banks had a clue what was going on or why?

"Can anyone tell me what MobileMe is supposed to do?" Having received a satisfactory answer, he continued, "So why the fuck doesn't it do that?"

"You've tarnished Apple's reputation," he told them. "You should hate each other for having let each other down."

http://gawker.com/5847344/what-everyone-is-too-polite-to-say-about-steve-jobs

He was right about MobileMe being a piece of shit. To this day it's still fucking up my diary and schedule.

But fair play, he helped create some nice products and has had the world eating out of his hand - they loved him for taking their money. I have to hand it to the guy.

Flowers outside the shop though - jees you have to be a real sucker to get that deeply into it. Shows the power of the media and social movements I guess.

Did it taste extra special?

An article I read recently referred to the outpouring of grief as the "Dianafication" of Steve Jobs, which I thought was rather apt.

Following in the footsteps of Elton after Princess Die, maybe Bob Dylan could update one of his hits to make it the tribute song Blowin' Jobs?

I'm not surprised if he did act like that. Many disgruntled people bitch and moan about what a dick the man was, but then again, this is another testament as to why Apple is so successful. Did he need to be a dick, you make the call. My father has a Fortune 500 company and it only got that way because he was shrewd. Personally, I don't think I could work with the old man, being his son was enough, let alone working with him, but I did learn a lot from him and he does run a tight ship and I think in order to be the best, you can't accept anything less.
You have these haters, but the proof is there for all to see. Look where Apple is today.
Even to many of you pc lovers, how many of you have an iPod or an iPhone? Anyone have a Zune?.......lol
Most of these big guys, I heard many horror stories and some scary stories about Bill Gates too, but maybe, just maybe their companies wouldn't be where they are today if these guys were all sweets and chummy with everyone. I admire Jobs, the haters can hate all they want, but Apple never borrowed a dime from the federal govt. whereas this President is borrowing money from China like a guy after a good smoke wanting to eat 10 bowls of skittles in one setting.

I'm not a Jobs hater. The bloke was obviously a tremendous salesman and extraordinary designer with an exceptional talent for making money.
But I do hate the way he's being Dianafied because he's dead.
He's been eulogized as "one of the greatest ever Mericans," but all I see him having done for Mericans was take away tens of thousands of jobs and give them all to Chinese chattel and pocketing billions in the process.
I may be wrong, but it didn't seem like he gave much back to the community that made him fabulously wealthy apart from providing them with fine-looking products that generally worked well, but were almost invariably over-priced and always over-hyped.
Jobs was not some great humanitarian or statesman, though he made millions' luxurious lives even easier. Even Diana got down and dirty with AIDS kids and shit, but Jobs never even did that. He was essentially a ruthless capitalist who exploited the fuck out of people, admittedly with style and a casual look.
And, at least Diana would have been interesting to fuck...

Saw a clip of the recent retrospective 60 Minutes did on him.

Given Apple's known style for naming their products, was referring to Jobs as an "icon" meant as a dig?

Did Job's belief in new age fluff kill him?

Postby dimwit » Mon Oct 24, 2011 11:01 pm

From what my wife tells me the type of cancer he had is normally treatable if detected early enough and operated on and removed quickly. It seems however that he opted for quackery for about a year.

In 2003 Jobs was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer and, rejecting the idea of surgery, set about finding alternative therapy, including a special diet.

He finally underwent surgery in 2004 having kept his illness secret from all but a small handful of Apple insiders.
