Spot on article. lmao. Japan is not the land of JAV models aplenty and pocky for weeaboo.

#6 = "Japanese Onry"
#5 = Isolationist attitude
#4 = Have no problem fingerprinting and deporting vs. USA
#3 = Variety shows suck
#2 = Simple tasks' difficulty compounded with language difficulty
#1 = prefer to drink with gaijin

Problems aside, Japan is still a nice to place to live. Although fuck citizenship for a place that requires a JP co-signer or voucher and all the other bullshit that goes with being gaijin. LMAO.

yup... where i lived in the US i would pull up to the drive way with my knife in hand and dont let go of it until i check out the inside of my house...

I have some friends from the UK and they say that some of the Japanese that go there think it is safe until they start seeing some football (soccer) riots and guys kicking the shit out of each other in broad day light.

that is one big reason why i like japan... i dont have to worry about getting jacked, held at gun point, or having the police give you a lil beat down for being out at night (which is not a good idea in the first place)...

Come on, you don't have to worry about any of those things in the U.S. provided you live in a nice area!

As for the UK, I can only speak for England, again, not really crazy unless you're in some trouble spots, but still laughable to think it's a really dangerous country. Maybe I am biased, but I don't consider most of Western Europe to be considerably dangerous.

We usually tend to run into trouble when there's alcohol involved, whereas a tourist arriving in Rio risks getting jacked straight out of the airport (gangs are not sealing off the highway for that). World Cup there is going to be a mess...

I've never had that problem outside of a bar, but I do realize bad things can happen by chance (and they often do).

That said, most normal people can easily avoid trouble whereas others seem to have a love affair with it (this is being said by someone who was once a troublemaker).

So no, I don't think that a considerable number of sane people in the U.S. have to worry about being car jacked, held at gunpoint, or given a beatdown by the police. I can think of many other places where that is a daily reality regardless of how much you make. As for individual fights, that's something else...

And I've been jumped in Ebisu and detained by the police in Setagaya-ku for walking to the 7-11 store to buy an onigiri. What's your point?

Is the US more dangerouns than Japan on average? Yes. However, it isn't that bad unless you live in the middle of the ghetto (I have) and even the dangers there are exaggerated by most people.

A lot of Americans and Brits like to believe they lived in the middle of warzone back home. It makes them feel tougher.

Let me tell you kids a REAL warzone-back-home story: I bought my first house in 1992 in Seattle. Toured a whole bunch of places with a lesbian real-estate-agent team who could really sniff out the good on-the-cusp-of-gentrifying neighborhoods. Didn't sign a "buyer's agent" agreement, so when we found a house, I made an offer directly to the selling agent (you should always do this; a selling agent is much more likely to take a low offer if they're pocketing the both sides of the commission, best interests of the seller be damned). Oh, the phone call I got a couple days later. Lots of references to rape, me willy, and blacklists.

-catone
-they were able to shake me down for $500, but that was okay.

Please tell me I'm misunderstanding this:

You made the real estate agents work for you (i.e. they showed you around to a bunch of houses, one of which you eventually bought), then you attempted to bypass them without paying them for their services?

How is that not ripping them off?

I was able to buy the place for about ten grand less than the amount of the offer they wanted me to make. The $500 (in 1992 dollars!) compensated them for their time. If you spend an hour at the Apple Store talking to a "genius," and then go buy the whatever at Yodobashi Camera so you can use their stupid point card, do you owe the Apple guy an omiyage?

The problem with Japanese going to visit or live abroad is that they have absolutely no situational awareness. They walk and drive without paying the slightest attention to what is going on around them. When they do something stupid or rude they will be forgiven it here, but not always so easily abroad. They also fail to recognize signs they may be heading somewhere they really don't belong, and are unable to avoid potential trouble that even children back home would have some understanding of.

Taking advantage of someone who lives off of commission when you have no intention of paying for their service is a piece-of-shit thing to do. It was pretty stupid of her not to make sure you couldn't do that though.

OK, so the $500 compensated them for their time. But how much time was it? If they toured a "whole bunch of places" with you, I'd assume that means they spent a whole bunch of time doing so. And since their business (i.e. their livelihood) is based on introducing homes to potential buyers, and that translates directly into time spent researching available homes as well as time spent touring those homes with potential customers, I can see how they'd be mighty pissed off if someone decided to string them along and then go direct to the seller without intending to pay them a cent (which is the impression I got from your story ... especially since you said that they had to "shake you down" for the $500). Their methods may not have been praiseworthy, but don't you think they deserved compensation for work done?

I'm not convinced of that, SJ! I didn't go into the house-buying process with some diabolical plan; a friend suggested making a lowball offer directly to the selling agent, and I did. Should I have forgone ten grand in order to ensure they got their three percent? I should've given them more than $500, but I was pretty poor at the time, and even the $500 meant I couldn't buy a washing machine for a few months and had to go to the Korean laundromat (the manager once asked, "what you doing here?" I guess because I'm so WASPy-looking). But then I got a girlfriend. :)

Very true

Samurai_Jerk wrote:It was pretty stupid of her not to make sure you couldn't do that though.

i bet she went to the property owner and had them give her a cut for the introduction. there is paperwork for when you show people to the property as you have some general profile that you make for potential property buyers...

but that 10 grand cut is probably the difference of the commission payout that they got back doored on...

really not cool though...

Japan's got its problems as we've seen in a fucking nighmarish way this year BUT I won't go back to Oz unless I'm deported.

Japan has shit construction, canned coffee, cosplay, all sorts of bullshit that's taking on a sinister aspect w/ the whole Fukushima-plus crisis, organised crime that fucks up the country more than anybody who lives outside it would dream - yeah, I can leave my bag on the train while I go to the dunny but maybe people who pinch bags are better than fucking parasites extorting many people and getting away with it as well as with their abundant quota of assaults, arson and extortion not to mention murder. Japan has a really fucked amount of crime and it's organised.

But I'll stay cause I like my work, can move around and get new employers without legal shackles like in China and Korea as well as Thailand for foreigners teaching English, can make as much money teaching privates as I like unlike the cuntries mentioned which have a real jealousy complex re foreigners living their lives and working in their cuntries. The Japanese have a kind of civility towards gaijin that balances out the bullshit.

I get laid regularly without having to commit myself, live in a place with some space tho the construction is shit and eat and drink well.

I won't go back to Oz permanently for as long as I can stay outside cause it's just become another dumping ground for the excess populations of China and India, and has become a country for so called 'investors' to exploit and jack up housing prices or buy up land to ship out old Asians to retire in Oz in their enclaves without actually wanting to be part of Oz society.

Part of this has been caused by the fucking greed of the education industry keen to suck up money from non Aussies by offering courses which sometimes are shit but designed to grab money. Part of this has been caused by the fuckwits in govt from the conservative ones of Johnny Howard's govt who started paying single mothers and other mothers to have more kids to the irresponsible spend it all then tax the ordinary to get it back Labor fucks of Rudd/Gillard govts who have been dancing to the globalist tune.

Not to mention the Labor Govt Rudd/Gillard welcome mat to self selecting 'asylum' seekers mostly Muslim who found a great fucking way to milk our welfare system and get a new life without the skills that other would be migrants need and even then some great applicants who speak English, have skills, work hard and actually understand English and want to integrate are denied.

Now Oz is visibly crowded compared to when I lived there, distinctive identities of different city and suburban areas have gone, foreign 'students' still game the system, annoy their neighbours by piling in 6 people to accommodation that's meant to fit 3, and flock to Oz to work instead of study, lying on their visa forms, and bring out their families, creating more fucking annoying people who want to exploit the system. Indians do this more than anybody else except for the Chinese.

Housing prices have rocketed, most Aussies of the younger generations will never own their own place, and absentee landlords in Asia and elsewhere buy up beautiful old places to run them down or pull em down straight away and build ugly flats. More people than ever are on welfare, milking the system, including non Australians who once weren't entitled but thanks to the Narcissistic Psycopath Kevin Rudd's globalist agenda, feel entitled to use up the system cause the Labor Govts let em.

Oz is fucked, aint never going back unless forced to do so.

If they're Yanks they'd better watch out for brokearse America coming after their dough. Canadians who were born in the US but never lived there are receiving tax bills, Canadians who had a grandmother from the US are receiving tax bills etc. The govt there are bastards - Obama won't tax the rich corporations that helped put him in the Democrat nomination, he's just as beholden as other Prezs have been. Obama wallows in deficit spending just like Bush did.

With the help of the private corporation called the IRS they are going after everybody who aint wealthy/rich.

Canada's no greener pasture for Americans.

Though I'm certainly no supported of the US taxing it's citizens abroad, the only way people would get tax bills like that is if they are US citizens or green card holders and they could be hit up for taxes regardless of where they live or what their other nationality is. It has nothing to do with being Canadian.
