SEDONA, Ariz. – A woman from Japan apparently fell to her death while hiking in Sedona, according to the Yavapai County Sheriff's Office.

Someone turned in a backpack belonging to a registered guest of the Bell Rock Inn around 8:30 a.m. Thursday, according to sheriff's office spokesman Dwight D'Evelyn. The backpack, which was found at the base of Bell Rock, contained the woman's identification, cash, personal items and a Japanese passport.

Employees checked the guest's room but she was not there.

Deputies learned the 51-year-old woman was last seen near the Bell Rock trailhead around 5 p.m. Wednesday. D'Evelyn said she was alone and apparently visiting from Japan.

Deputies checked the area around Bell Rock Thursday afternoon and located a body matching the description of the missing woman at the southwest base. It is believed the woman fell 50 to 100 feet from a ledge on the rock's face.

Detectives from the Criminal Investigations Bureau arrived to investigate the death, but at this time there is no indication of foul play.

One wonders if this is not a suicide as she was alone.

That is a famed "Power Spot" in the US and as such, draws a lot of J-tourists.

Sounds like another Japanese woman perhaps has done away with herself, this time in Oregon and jumping into the Pacific Ocean.

The Lincoln County Sheriff's Office is seeking the public's help in locating a 38-year-old Neotsu woman, who is considered missing and endangered.

Kayoko Umenishi left her home in Neotsu on Oct. 12, driving a white Toyota Camry with the license plate 562EZM, traveling in an unknown direction. The vehicle was found at the Otter Rock Viewpoint on October 14, unoccupied. Lincoln County Search and Rescue, Depoe Bay Fire Department, Oregon State Police and the U.S. Coast Guard searched the area for Umenishi, but her whereabouts are still unknown.

Umenishi is 5-foot, 3-inches tall and weighs about 100 pounds. She speaks both English and Japanese. Police say she does not have her prescribed medications.
