Can someone pass me a handkerchief, my eyes are full of tears after hearing of Shinoda's plight.

You sure he's not mixing up his Ls and Rs and actually referring to the glow-in-the-dark residents of Fukushima Prefecture?

I would have thought that Yak membership rates in the mid sixties would have simply gone up due to the relatively high birth rates after end of the war as well as fast growing J economy....both of these factors would lend themselves to more customers in the vice industries and more or fatter opportunities in the illegal loans and extortion sidelines..

LOL, I thought "guilty by association" was a constant in "we Japanese" programming. We're always hearing all sorts of stories about the families, children, friends, etc. of criminals or whatnot being treated differently. How can this behavior come as any sort of shock to the Yakuza?

Its oddly refreshing to read something of this nature, especially in contrast to all the stuff I know/read about the mexican gangs (I live in the border land)....

really though... but in reply to the yaks statement... i would train the police forces and JSDF (20 years ago) to be ready for this type of shit... now they might have to rely on the USMC to do the dirty work.

I know a few guys that would love to have a field day with the yaks... hell... i would sign up for that. me sight is too fucked so I failed the physical at MEPS... this may be a new day for me!

BTW where are you in NM? my family is there.

Cheer up Iraira. Just because of the new law, people ain't going to quit paying for pussy in the steam and creams, nor are merchants going to suddenly quit paying protection. Pachinko balls will continue to fall into holes. The wholesale renting of politicians will continue under new and more exotic facades.

Thanks to the new teeth in the new law, the government probably just guaranteed a two to three fold net increase to mob business profits.

'the Jay Leno of Japan,

I don't remember Jay Leno looking like a evadee from a Japanese version of Deliverance... or squeeling like a pig...

Meanwhile I'm always surprised to see a picture of Yamada dining at a table... I was sure his family kept him locked in a shed in their farm out of shame... Amazing how wrong I could sometimes be...

How the hell does 11 million yen get to be 1.7 million dollars?

And then, in the next paragraph, how does 20 million yen get to be 26,000 dollars?

Somebody sucks at math.

Seriously, I know there was government intervention regarding the yen but this is the black market rate of exchange for the yen. :p

Sounds like the yakuza have a fair idea of appropriate Japanese corporate behavior, though...
