"They were nothing more than propaganda organs for the police, and no matter how I tried to tell my friends it would be safe to party after the match, almost all of them decided to stay home because of what they saw in the newspapers and on TV."

Now there's a Japanese who get's it. Maybe she's a F*cked Japanese?

F*ed media

Postby kamome » Mon Jun 17, 2002 2:52 am

I was in Roppongi on Saturday night the moment England beat Denmark to advance to the final 8. You'd think that would be a "hooligan moment", but it was very tame. The police were out in full force all over Roppongi Crossing, but it was really unnecessary. All I saw were a few people waving English flags and cheering. The Japanese police and media are such fuckers.

I was out in Roppongi on Friday night and the ones causing the ruckus were the Japanese! The police were waving us along as we tried to navigate around the hordes of Japanese singing and chanting in the streets.

Powerful thing - Mob Mentality.

Now the thing is, barring a miracle and Japan winning the World Cup, at some point Japan is going to lose.

The media have rather selfishly whipped everybody up into a what I think is an unprecedented hysteria. Wonder what happens then.

I'd like to think common sense will prevail and everybody will appauld the great effort by team Nippon and wish the winning team (and it's Japan based citizens) best of luck. I hope what happened in Moscow is not a forboding of what could happen here. Hooliganism is a two way street. Especially if the police are looking the wrong way.

It is *possible* that Japan could face England in the Semi-Final.

Food for thought.
