It's not because some people managed to convince few New Yorkers that eating pseudo Japanese food is l33t that you can claim J Cuisine to be the most popular in the world.

The Toyota Hilux might be the most popular Pick Up truck in the world... For the most populare cuisine... even this bullcrap list put them 8 out of 10

http://www.popularsomething.com/2011/02/most-popular-cuisines-in-world.html Japanese food culture is typical for an isolated island, you cook whatever you can get your hands on...It's just a little better han english food because they didn't even have the necessary creativity to generate the monstruosity them english are known for...

No complaints about French cuisine, but you are not very convincing, given the McDonalds menu you tend to feed your cats. Nor do I wish to take the culinary high ground; after all Dutch cuisine was the reason the Belgians separated from Holland.

But aren't we a bit harsh on Japanese cuisine? You did notice that it is more than just Sushi and Nato? Dishes like Teppanyaki are well-known abroad, but of course the real attraction of J-food is what you can eat here inside Japan.

In the end, it is a question of taste. If you do not like it, there are lots of alternatives, even for your cats...

Indeed, it may seem that way...but, somehow I don't see Greji being dragged off to the slaughterhouse, mutilated into hundreds of chunks and then being gobbled down voraciously by wannabe gourmands in a dim-lit restaurant who lift their little pinkies when they guzzle down their cabernet.

I may be wrong, though, and all bets are off if Greji ever visits Germany.

I don't know about that Hair. I have been gobbled down voraciously in several different dim-lit joints. Does that count?

2-star restaurant serves fugu liver

Postby Russell » Sat Dec 03, 2011 10:53 am

Japan Michelin restaurant in trouble over poisoning

TOKYO, December 2, 2011 (AFP) - A Michelin two-star restaurant in Tokyo was facing a criminal complaint Friday over the hospitalisation of a diner who was served the toxic liver of a pufferfish, a Japanese health official said.

The Tokyo Metropolitan Government has revoked the special licence required to serve pufferfish -- fugu -- for chef Takeshi Yasuge, who operates Fugu Fukuji in the capital's upmarket Ginza area.

The action came after a 35-year-old woman had to be taken to hospital suffering from a headache and numbness in her lips after eating the liver of the fish at the restaurant on November 10.

"The chef served a liver, knowing that it is toxic, even if it was a request from the customer. It should warrant punitive actions," said a public health official.

The chef may face fines, and possible jail time.

Fugu is a seasonal delicacy and commands high prices, but must be processed by specially trained and licensed chefs who are required to cut out toxic parts, including the liver and skin.

However, some aficionados ask to be served the banned parts, which are said to be a fine but dangerous delicacy.

Michelin said it does not plan to change its rating of the restaurant, which was based on the dishes its agents ate, a company spokeswoman said.

Michelin this week released its latest Red Guide to the Tokyo area, which listed 247 establishments with at least one star.

The Japanese capital boasts 16 three-star eateries, six more than Paris

Typical J-bussiness: even if the customer requests something stupid, you just deliver it. Anyway, good to know that serving delicious but poisonous food doesn't loose you any stars.

He should lose his license for negligence.

A patient might ask a doctor to cut his heart out, but it doesn't mean the doctor can do it and get away with it.

A plane taking off with missing screws is 'negligence'.

Serving knowingly poisonnous food seems to better fit in the 'murder attempt' category...

Is there a "reckless endangerment" statute on the books in Japan?

TPP: Japanese porn to UNLOAD on the US!

Postby Taro Toporific » Mon Apr 15, 2013 9:30 am

Japan’s AV biz to thrive under TPP
Tokyoreporter.com |2013/04/04/
If Japan enters the tariff-eliminating Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP), the nation’s porn industry may thrive, reports weekly tabloid Shukan Asahi Geino (Apr. 4).
Under the pact, the magazine believes that adult video (AV) productions from the U.S. and Japan will be have to compete against one another like never before, much like agricultural products and automobiles.
Takashi Kadokura is the author of the 2007 book “Why the World’s Below-the-Belt Businesses Are Lucrative,” which provides an outline for the breadth of Japan’s sex industry. Kadokura, who is also the head of an economic research center, tells Shukan Asahi Geino that Japan has an edge over the U.S. in the porn market, with exports likely to outweigh imports under the TPP.

Explain this one to someone who has no deep understanding of things.... does this mean to say that the only thing restricting international sale of porn is prohibitive tariff rates or customs restrictions protecting the local industry from imports? And that TPP has among its bullet items the harmonisation of obscenity laws? If so, colour me surprised.

I think this is just another attempt by Asahi Geino to search for an angle, any angle, to titillate with erotic teasers, and get a few more semi-chubbs going on the train seats.

Japan could make a killing dumping the official raw versions of JAV on the U.S. market.

Part of it would because Americans would sell it right back to the Japanese.

Both are from the same family, Brassicaceae (cabbage, horseradish, and mustard). Most of kaiten-zushi {回転寿司} joints in Japan serve a "wasabi" that's a mixture of Western horseradish, mustard, starch and green food coloring---Nobody notices/cares.

Blech ...

[food snob mode]
It has to be the wasabi root freshly grated on a shark-skin grater or it ain't wasabi.
Well ... it doesn't have to be a shark-skin grater, but it does have to be real wasabi.
[/foods snob mode]

But lacking that, I'll eat just about anything.

I watch them for the story man...

(just did a rerun of 'if Yua Aida was yours' where she is hunted in a park by men wearing bunny suits and kidnapping her to do evil things... there is not a single second of these scenes where she's not uncontrolably laughing while trying to cover her face to appear scared... A remake of Alien with her in the role of Ripley would be totally awesome...)

I hope we can get imported produce from America. I rarely eat watermelon or apples over here because I can't justify paying that much for them.
