Is this a US manufacturer? Major?

If it's a recognized US company I'd be inclined to check with the American Chamber of Commerce in Japan to see what advice they can provide before piddling around with the local yokels. I could be way off mark, but it's worth a shot, no?

An official cease and desist request from the right quarter might be all that's necessary. Maybe even from the manufacturer themselves.

Take your logo and add Japan under for the trademark application. At worse you have to pay a schoolgirl to put little stickers 'japan' on the package.

Contacting the American Chamber of Commerce can't hurt, that's for sure. Thanks!

Cease and desist is already in the works but better to have some ammo with the trademark for this and any possible future complications.

Exactly what I plan to do if all else fails. Have a version of the logo (initials) with it also spelled out (overlayed on it) so we'll see. Apparently lawyer #1 still says the "reading" of this logo will be the same but am contacting other lawyers to see what they say.
