Any kin.dle users?

Postby sublight » Tue Dec 13, 2011 1:21 pm

I was planning to buy myself a kin.dle Touch 3G, but found that it's not available to purchasers outside the US (other 3G and non-3G models are, however).

So I'm wondering: if I ship it to family in the US and then have them forward it here, will everything still work?

Specifically, when I register it, will it reject my Japan address? Will there be any problems making purchases?

The FAQs at Amzn aren't too helpful, but looking around some other sites it seems like it should work out. Still like to check with someone else here who has one, though.

thanks

I had my family add the apps I wanted before they sent it. Also it WILL reject your Japanese address so use your friends or families address in the USA for all purchases.

I don't know if there is any difference but I have the previous model with a Japanese address account with no problems so far.

Yeah, I could just go ahead and get the older model (is yours a 3G, kagemusha?), which would be simpler and provide the functions I'm looking for, but...

shiny new thing! I waaaaannnnnt!

I sent my sister a kin.dle (weird I cant type the word) to singapore and it is not a supported country. It will only work on sprint not via carrier agreements, but will sync via usb for the books of your need.

Yep, I'm happy with it. As long as you don't read much professional data with graphs and tables nor picture books for children, the simple 3G model does the job well.

I was thinking about that at first, but I make purchases all the time via amzn's US site with a J-CC, both for myself in Japan and for people in America, including buying stuff for myself that can't be shipped to Japan.

I'm mainly planning to just read regular books with it, so I'm debating now whether to go with the older 3G model that ships to Japan, or creating a shipping address for myself in America and sending it there (I don't care if Jeff Bezos thinks I live in my mom's basement).

Update: Amzn has just released the international version of the WiFi touch, so the 3G model should be coming out soon.

I don't have the slightest idea what I have. I just wanted a Kin.d.le touch and ordered straight off the Ama-zon HP with my account card. It arrived in Japan and I have been using it for the last 2-3 months, quite happily I might add.

That store we can't mention here has announced that the international 3G Touch version of the product we can't mention here will be released on April 27th.

I'm getting mine.
