Charitable Giving Ranking: Japan is 105th

Postby Catoneinutica » Mon Dec 26, 2011 11:22 am

World Giving Index 2011: "This is the second edition of the 'World Giving Index', the largest study into charitable behaviour across the globe involving 153 countries in total. Using data from Gallup's Worldview World Poll, the report is based on three measures of giving behaviour - giving money, volunteering time and helping a stranger. The results show that the USA is officially the most charitable nation in the world."

I took a screen shot from the PDF-file link below. The "Anglosphere" does very well indeed, though it looks like the 'Nucks are the cheapest. The Netherlanders do pretty well, too. Japan is its usual foetid, squalid pile of fail at 105th, behind Korea and Taiwan, countries that until recently were much poorer than Japan, and still have lower per-capita GDPs.

Mods: could you help a brotha out and correct the thread title?

This kinda reminds me of the Cold War-era mega-sized, U.S.-made prophylactics distributed as size "S."

Is this "news"? It's always been low in terms of % of GDP. For more LOLz, look at how many asylum visas they grant.

Showing my age, but I always had a bit of a hard spot for Margaret Trudeau...half her global statesman husband's age, gang-bangs with the Stones during sex, drug and rock-n-roll orgies in pre-AIDS days, and low-cut, bra-less dresses do much to make me respect a woman's intelligence.

Oh, and wasn't the gay airline host who became Patient X in spreading AIDS through North America also a Canadian?

Wayne Gretsky was pretty cool, too...the Don Bradman of ice hockey...

And, it's hard to fault a cuntry whose national animal is beaver...

The hep C, you mean?

Other great Nuxian exports:

Dorothy Stratten
Mordechai Richler
William Gibson
"Trailer Park Boys" (funniest comedy series of the "oughties")
"My Bloody Valentine" (original Canadian version of 1981): "It happened once, it happened twice - cancel the dance or it'll happen thrice!" Only a Canadian slasher would use the word "thrice"!

Neil Young - no need to elaborate
Alanis Morissette - the first album - the rest is a pile of modern hippie crap
Cowboy junkies - quite original
Feist - for her appearance on Elmo's best

What's amusing is how countries like France, Japan, and Germany, which are always posturing about capitalism was foisted on them by those coldblooded Americans and Brits, and how their economies are softer, more egalitarian, more communal, more ecologically sound, more in tune with the blood and soil of their national patrimony, are the biggest bloody skints when it comes to charity. "No goddamn blind African kid is getting my hard-earned Euros/yen! Fuck those losers!"

We could always examine the reverse...

http://www.mofa.go.jp/announce/announce/2011/4/0421_01.html
In response to the Great East Japan Earthquake, the Government of the Republic of Congo announced that it will donate 500,000 US dollars (approximately 40 million yen) as relief money for Japan...

IIUC, they have the lowest GDP per capita in Africa.

Pissing away money or food in africa only serve to make the fat cats fatter. The only effective optipn would be to re-colonise behead anybody even remotely looking like an official set up a temporary governement and whej the economy is back on track and feeding everybody try to think aboot how to get the fook out without shit hitting back the fan again... But neo colonialism is extreeemly badly perceived by the same psychotic bibul thumper who enjoy so much the game of holier than thou "look at me giving aid, why don't you do the same as me to be as perfect as me, you communist nazi kapitalist antisemite"

Send money: they buy weapons
Send food: they hoard and its black market land
Do nothing:OMG egoists...

Mitterand had a good policy... as long as French interest of French long time allies and friend nation(*) are not in danger no French Soldier shall be send to fight(**).

(*)usually that means Russian, Serbs... these kind of really old alliances
(**)without UN mandate

Ahh, the ol' cheapskate excuse: sheeit, I ain't supportin' no foreign-aid-NPO-empire-building-getting-the-natives-hooked-on-aid-and-greasing-the-palms-of-the-local-bigboys bullshit. Great, don't donate to, say, UNICEF. In fact, don't donate to any NPO whose administrative burden is over 25%. That's just due diligence. But it leaves a lot of very good charities.
