I saw dat yesterday at the red light:

That's a Russian UAZ 452 offroad van, it was brand new with still plastic on the seats and registered in Toyohashi...

I SOOOO WANT THE SAME....

Could paint it like a Soviet Version of the A-Team Van... Like the R(ed)-Team...

I spent a couple of weeks in Mongolia in the Summer of 2000. The son of a nomadic family I stayed with out on the steppes had a brand new Russian jeep. What was amazing to me was that the engine had to be started with a hand crank.

That was the whole point. The guy told me that the reason people had those jeeps is that they were completely analog and easy to repair on your own. He said that if you had a Japanese SUV and it broke down in the middle of nowhere you were fucked.

More than it's worth, probably...

Just be glad you don't need to import a car into the US. THAT is a f*cking nightmare. Pretty much the only way to do it is to bribe people.

Dood, once again:

Regular fuel:
112 BHP
15 L / 100 KM (AT BEST)
Top speed 105km/h (AT BEST)

Even if it can be fixed with farming equipment spare parts...It's not so great for daily use... (plus: no aircon...)

Old 1980 1990 Toyota Crown especially the Station Wagons seems to be impossible to kill... But they are huge... The only other one that I can see being reliable and easy to fix are the Toyota Crown Comfort (Taxi) and they run on GPL.

Meh, all of these are interesting choices, but suffer from one obvious design flaw. Too many wheels.

I'll stick with my motorcycle. Here in Kyushu, parking is free on any sidewalk as long as there's space for people to walk.
