investment advice - how to buy gold, hold chinese $

Postby tone » Sat Dec 31, 2011 11:55 am

i know a few of you guys are in the financial world, and maybe some of you are doing something in addition to stocks/ETF type trading to keep yourselves in future laptops and future internet connections to get on FG.com in the future

Im thinking about diversifying out of dollar bank accounts into some gold, some currency, and who knows what else.

is it economical to buy phys gold here? my friend whos dad is into it, seems to always buy him in singapore and keep it wrapped in the seal it came in (important?). thing is its probably capped on how much you can carry into japan or wherever at the airport customs right?

so if i bought in japan is there some % charge that makes it a tough call compared to buying elsewhere?

the other thing ive been thinking about is chinese currency. my friend told me there are commission charges on going from Yen to Yuan or whatever its called.

any other advice you guys have, i would be interested to hear. I just read things that just make the US look to be in dire straits and I figure better safe than sorry even if it causes some hassle and i lose a % or two in moving it around. thanks - i didnt know who else to ask

i guess i'm just worried about doom and gloom possibilities and not wanting to just hold USD

the US is just so debt laden I just dont see them having any other choice than inflate their way out of this.

so i kind of for security want to put like some slice of my pie into phys gold and diversify the rest out of USD - cause god knows my mom dad and grandma are all long on the dollar, just by having dollar denominated investments, pensions, and bank accounts etc

so for my own peace of mind, just need some advice on how to buy gold. I'll watch the curve and think about when is the right time etc. it could be a great time to buy if it hits like 1500

so if i buy in japan, am i going to get burned with a bunch of fees and commissions?

are there branches of banks here that would be safer than USD denominated bank accts back home? like some kind of chinese or singaporean bank?

thx

Take my advice and consider investing in great memories that you can enjoy in your old age rather than investing in dreams that may never come to fruition.
Spend it now!

It worked?! Damn, I might have to try that!
If it does work it'll be a fucking miracle, and in my mind gold will assume the status of the most valuable substance in the entire universe.

plus all the debt that been created or absorbed by governments and central banks - seems like theres a good chance they want to inflate themselves out of the current crisis or at least take out a hidden tax on people holding paper

so yeah, obviously its not all there is, but trying to be smart.

so anyone here ever bought gold or invested outside of the NYSE over here?
