They have to spend the extra funds they recieve from the increase in consumpition tax on something right. Another great example of tax on the poor in this society being alocated to fund projects for the wealthy big Japanese companies. ("consumption tax" is a "flat tax", which hurts the poor in any society the most since any person pays the same amount, rich or poor)

But of course we all know who contribute the most to the politicians the most. (Fujitsu, Hitachi, Sharp, NEC, Yanmar, Ajinomoto and Ito-Yokado Co)

The sad thing is that there seems to be a lack of outrage when it comes to this issue. 10 billion yen!? Are you Fracking kidding me?! I'm sure a few people in Fukushima will agree with me.

Competition from the US. Or maybe it is just a way to find new markets for those LEDS, as the South-Koreans proposed one year ago:
Kim said that the [autonomous] building [viable for agricultural mass production] [...] will adopt artificial light such as that from light-emitting diodes (LEDs).

And of course we want to be more creative than those Koreans, so we use LEDs to replace pesticides, don't we?

Yes, that is what the Koreans figured out. But as an insecticide? Are they planning to use UV LEDs for that???

Actually, now I think of it, maybe they want to use the radiation as an insecticide. Only roaches survive that.

That's "insect repellant," not "disinfectant."

Apparently they've found that bugs don't like certain wavelengths of light, and will stay away. They use a kind of pink-ish color lighting in some of the vinyl hothouses around here for that reason.

EDIT: Or are you thinking of those bug zappers with the UV lights? Those are supposed to attract the bugs, which are then zapped by an electrical discharge.
