Of course if it was the other way around, I'd be giving Hulk a high-five. Instead he got this from Lisa Lampanelli:

Don't watch that show but DEXTER is also supposed to be set there when in reality most of it is filmed in Long Beach (Sunny Southern California)

Olympus shareholder sues execs for firing ex-CEO -report

TOKYO | Tue Jan 17, 2012 1:45am EST

Jan 17 (Reuters) - An Olympus Corp shareholder filed suit on Tuesday against former chairman Tsuyoshi Kikukawa and 13 other executives for firing former president Michael Woodford without addressing his questions about past deals, damaging trust in the medical equipment maker, the Yomiuri daily said on Tuesday.

The shareholder, an individual investor residing in Nara, western Japan, is asking the current and former board members to pay a total 1.34 billion yen ($17.5 million)to the company, the Yomiuri said.

Olympus sues 5 auditors seeking up to 1 billion yen

TOKYO | Tue Jan 17, 2012

Jan 17 (Reuters) - Japan's Olympus Corp said on Tuesday it has sued five past and current auditors seeking up to 1 billion yen ($13 million) in compensation, after they signed off on 13 years of fradulent accounts.

The suit against five individuals, filed with the Tokyo district court on Tuesday, comes after an unofficial panel of experts cleared global accounting groups KPMG and Ernst & Young of any responsibility for the company's $1.7 billion accounting fraud.

The role of accounting firms remains under official review.

Analysis: Swift takeover for Olympus unlikely

Jan 16, 2012

By Isabel Reynolds

TOKYO (Reuters) - Olympus Corp should be the easiest of takeover targets: a profitable business with its share price in tatters, its management in utter disgrace and its balance sheet in need of fresh capital. But not in Japan.

The long-term approach of major Japanese investors like banks and life insurers, combined with an aversion to foreign and hostile takeovers and uncertainty over lawsuits stemming from the $1.7 billion accounting scandal, will likely make any change of ownership at Olympus a gradual process.

The camera and endoscope maker is seeking a friendly capital tie-up with a rival electronics company such as Sony Corp or Fujifilm to bolster its finances after unpicking the 13-year accounting fraud to find its net assets had dwindled to just 45.9 billion yen.

Olympus is expected to stay listed for the time being and sources with the company's powerful main bankers, who are also shareholders, say they would be prepared to wait for the firm to recover on its own.

The tie-up proposal is meant to mollify more impatient foreign investors, say the bankers, who avoid commenting in public because of the sensitivity of the issue.

"This is a distinctively Japanese thing," said Alastair Macdonald, banking analyst at Macquarie Capital Securities in Tokyo. "For decades, Japanese banks have formed very long-term relationships with their corporate customers. I think by and large the mindset has been to stick with those customers through thick and thin."

That means inviting in an outside investor is not likely a bid by banks to lift the share price and head for the exit.

Exclusive: TPG willing to invest $1 billion in Olympus

Postby IparryU » Wed Jan 18, 2012 3:33 pm

(Reuters) - Private equity firm TPG Capital is willing to invest about $1 billion in Japan's Olympus Corp in a joint deal with Sony Corp or another suitor circling the scandal-hit firm, a person familiar with TPG's thinking said.

TPG has informed executives at Sony, Canon Inc, Fujifilm Holdings and Panasonic Corp of its interest in providing capital and expertise to help revive the maker of medical equipment and cameras, the person said.

Olympus has been seeking a friendly investor to make a minority investment and help its business recover from a $1.7 billion accounting scandal that has crushed its stock price and left a big dent in its balance sheet.

Electronics firms such as Sony, Canon and Panasonic are keen on Olympus' diagnostic endoscope business as part of their strategies to expand into healthcare, while Fujifilm is already in the profitable endoscope market, banking sources have said.

Is there any precedent for successful shareholder litigation in Japan? I don't recall reading about such suits in the news.

In this case it's more like playing Russian roulette with a gun that someone has put live bullets in every chamber without your knowledge. Sort of an unfair disadvantage, and thus the problem.

Except as long as the money was coming in everybody was looking somewhere else...

They own part of the company (share)
They benefit.
They should be responsible for the misdeed.
Or at least suck up silently when it folds...

Nobody hold a gun to their head and forced them to buy Olympus shares...

Well ... no, but when you buy shares in a company you do so under the assumption that the company will be run by the book. That's part of the deal, and why there are laws regarding this sort of thing.

It's the same when you put money in a bank, right? You expect that the bank will behave and not spend your money on hookers for the boss.

I don't think the shareholders can be held responsible for illegal shenanigans they weren't aware of.
