Unfortunately this happens often in Australia to dogs and small children and usually outside Casino's or places with poker machines.

There's a huge rash of these every summer in the US. Thankfully, the cops aren't buying the "oh, I forgot all about him!" excuse anymore and are starting to charge the parents with manslaughter - if not murder.

Let's face it, the majority of these cases are nothing more than retroactive abortions. The "Li'l Sizzler" has become the way to get out of being a parent once you've realized it's not the dreamland you thought it was going to be.

The days of "the family has suffered enough and there's no need to punish them" are gone. Thank goodness.

This happened in Quebec last summer when a father went to the casino and left the toddler in the car when it was 32C.

Yeah and most of the time it is Chinese parents leaving their kids in the casino car park while they feed their gambling addiction for many hours. I don't care if you disagree with this statement-'Say it to the hand'.

I don't disagree with it - if you're talking about the cases in Australia. In the US it's close to 100% white, suburban types that do this. Wal-Mart and one's own driveway seem to be the top location choices.

Yes, in Australia it has been mainly related to casinos, people who just play all day non-stop.

I'ver never known it to be a Chinese problem in Australia - it is usuall Joe/Joanne Public - white folk that seem to be the main offenders.

gambling addiction is not a racial issue as far as I know... why you are so certain that it is.. (BTW talk to the hand is so Jerry Springer!!)

Parking kids at casinos

Postby cliffy » Mon Sep 22, 2003 5:38 pm

As someone who works in the industry in Aust. I have to agree with GG, it is a problem that is shared with all kinds of people. Crown casino in Melbourne, Victoria, Aust. had a couple of widely reported instances of parents leaving their children in the car in the car park who were of Veitnamese origin (but other cases of such were not so widely reported). Star city in Sydney has had the same as well as all other casinos in Australia, my own workplace, Cairn's Reef casino, has also had cases of parents leaving their children outside of the casino while the played, Cairns for those who didn't know is in the tropics and is not a place to be out in the noonday sun (thankyou Noel Coward). My car's inside temp rises from 27 degC to 38/9 degC in three minutes parked in a covered car park in the wet (summer) season, parked in the open, the plastic trim starts to melt it turns very soft from its normal firm state very quickly (less than two minutes in one instance). bugger sitting in that for hours 8O 8O 8O 8O

No it is not a racial issue, (nice try on the race card), it is a cultural issue. 'Chinese' is a culture as well as a 'race'. Fancing not knowing that Chinese culture values gambling, next you will be professing your ignorance of the Chinese love for gold!

Well yes I have been to the casinos in Macau blah blah blah, but it was really your rude attitude that struck me more than anything.. also we were talking about leaving kids and dogs in cars and you suddenly turned it into a chinese issue. I am sure if I could be bothered, I could find as many examples of "white" people doing the same thing.. but I am busy now..

Well yeah, there are all sorts of people who are gambling addicts. I was making the point (I forgot why now) that Chinese people love to gamble, and for cultural reasons disproportionately gamble to excess, a point I demonstrated.

And no, I wasn't being rude, but you sure took the bait.

????? I disagree because I was brought up with a lot of influences on Chinese culture. Gambling is definately a No-No, not just Chinese cultures, no other cultures in Singapore value gambling. Is not common to have cards at home. Chinese do love money (in olden days is gold) For instance in New Year, you will hear lot of wishes about Properity,(besides wishes on good health, safety etc.) and adults will give money in red packets to children too.

Ah yes I can see what you mean. However Singapore has cracked down on gambling because of the problems it has caused Chinese culture around the world. Singapore is a really puritanical place, with lots of things banned, but it doesnt mean Chinese don't like gambling. They like it so much they had to ban casinos in Singapore! It was causing problems. But really, so what, there are lots of gambling addicts in Australia who play poker machines, but that is an individual problem, not a reason to destroy an industry as many call for here.

I don't look down on the Chinese for liking gambling, there is nothing wrong with gambling in itself, it shows the Chinese like games and a fun time. Speaking of gambling I was reading about pachinko last night here: http://www.pripix.com/features/pachinko.htm.

When I was in Japan as a nine year old, I loved those pachinko balls, bouncing them down stairwells. I want to try out pachinko as an adult in Japan at least once.

In Malaysia, the muslim (mainly malays) are not allowed in the law to gamble, so what you can see is the Chinese (who is the second majority) and Indians (minority) in the casino or turf clubs, (which might leads people to think that only Chinese loves gambling. There are Chinese who like gambling (as any other nation would, otherwise there won't be Las Vegas), but there are really many Chinese who hates gambling too (like me and lots of other Chinese that I know), so is not fair to say Chinese love gambling. Gambling is no fun at all, pachinko is real boring, believe me.

More F*cked than You

You are Chinese? Wow now your handle makes so much sense. It must suck to have to deal with so much crap. Because the Chinese culture is so interesting to the rest of the world a ton of sterotypes have sprung up.

Chinese all know kung-fu
Chinese are all good in Math
Chinese are all cheap as Scotsmen
Chinese all know ancient laundry tricks
They have secret medical information
They all excel in Math
They can learn Kanji easy (oh wait!)
etc etc.

I hope I get to meet you someday.

I applaud your attempt at research, but you've still failed to provide an example of the "mostly Chinese" parents who let their children die in cars.

Let me guess, the PC press would never publish such an important fact, so you couldn't come up with an example. However, you just know because of your great insight.

Only 3.2% of the Australian popluation is Chinese yet most of these cases of criminal neglect is down to this small community. Bullshit!

Just have to get used to it since I have to deal with it in my home country anyway..

 crazy..but what is ancient laundy tricks anyway? That one sounds interesting. I do know some Chinese cheapskate trick: if you want to save some water on laundry, you can turn your panty three times (so you can use every corner (provided your panty is triangular shape) and again turn it inside out and used it another 3 times, so total you can use it 6 times before you wash! Er..off course for the man I know the shape is slighty diffrent..

Kanji? I have to learn since seven years old and I was learning the complicated ones..but knowing kanji can never mean I am good/ fast in Japanese.

Sorry, getting out of the main topic again.

From inthe80s.com
The Calgon in the Chinese Laundromat: Woman comes in and asks how the cleaner gets her laundry so fresh. He laughs and says "Ancient Chinese Secret." The woman in the back says "We need more Calgon" and the customer says "Ancient Chinese secret huh????" and the proprieter smiles embarassingly (very cheesy)

I think those could be pre-publicity for the upcoming movie version of Coin Locker Babies that's coming in 2008 according to the IMDB .
