It's still more than what I get paid. I'd love to have 4.48 mil yen a year.

These are average wages for people working more than 10 years, not for a young person just starting out. For an FG, making under 4 million/year in Japan is cause to IMMEDIATELY go to Naria. Likewise it's cause for GREAT personal shame to a Japanese not to have at least 10 million yen in the bank... yet read on

A Fifth of Japanese Households Have No Savings, Nikkei Reports
Sept. 23 (Bloomberg) --Households in Japan who said they have no savings rose to 22 percent, the highest level in 40 years, the Nihon Keizai newspaper said, citing a survey conducted by the Bank of Japan.
More than half of households with savings said the amount of money they kept at financial institutions fell this year, Nikkii reported.
