FB graffiti artist's FG experience

Postby Samurai_Jerk » Sat Feb 11, 2012 7:13 pm

Artist David Choe who has been in the news the past couple of weeks because if his Facebook stock apparently spent some time in jail in Japan for assault. This is a long rambling interview on The Howard Stern Show but he talks about his time in Japan at 3:05, 45:35 and again at 57:20. His account of the arrest seems to differ somewhat from the Wikipedia version. I definitely get the feeling he's exaggerating to make the story more interesting.

He's certainly exaggerating in Wikipedia, too, where he says he drew pictures to stop cellmates trying to beat him up. Japanese nicks are not like the West...the only beatings that occur here are the system-sanctioned ones meted out by the warders. The moment prisoners merely look like they're gonna fight (which is about the time they start grumbling and rolling their Rs when they speak and make their eyeballs look like they're about to pop out of their heads), in step the guards...

That's exactly what I understood about Japanese jail so I figured it was BS. The parts about having his ass beat so bad by the cops he had internal bleeding and the poor security while he was being transferred from the hospital back to jail seem a lot more believable. The difference I noticed is that the Wikipedia entry says he was in Japan for less than 24 hours but in the Stern interview he made it seem like he had been here for awhile. Anyway, I wonder what the real story is.

It's likely that someone else wrote it based on his account.

By the way, he also mentions having sold a painting to the Princess of Azerbaijan for $500,000 last year. I could be wrong but I don't think Azerbaijan has a royal family.

I've seen the "Dirty Hands" documentary which is a work of his best friend Harry Kim. The piece chronicles some of the misadventures of David Choe and Harry Kim on Choe's road to infamy and fortune. There is a segment about his incarceration in Japan. This guy is out there but he can certainly paint.

A while back in Los Angeles (April 2010), I attended a pop up gallery of David Choe's art work put on by the Lazarides Gallery of London. At the show, he had several large canvas paintings that were going for low ball six figure sums and they did sell, some of them in a matter of hours.

Don't know about any Azerbaijani royalty but I can easily believe him getting a 500,000 dollar commission given the going rate for much of his original art work.

I know his work sells for that much so that wasn't an issue. I just didn't think that there was a such a thing as the Princess of Azerbaijan (do any former communist block countries have a currently intact and recognized royal family?). It could be that it was someone who is a descendant of the pre-Soviet royal family (if there was one).

Anyway, the guy seems like he has ADD or something so I wouldn't be surprised if it's just a case of him not being able to remember details correctly.

Maybe he was referring to a royal family member from the United Arab Emirates and he got the geography wrong. Who knows.

He's definitely an odd cat.

ABC News: David Choe Interview with Barbara Walters

After making his first media appearance on the Howard Stern radio program where he talked about several risque topics, besides his foray into being a Facebook shareholder, artist David Choe has now made his television debut following the news of his massive stake in the company. As the story has become a commonplace tale by now, Choe of course took stock in Facebook, forgoing a payment from Sean Parker in the neighborhood of $60,000 USD. The entertaining interview finds Choe in top form, even hoisting venerable newswoman Barbara Walters off of her feet in order for her to put her moniker up with spray paint. Far more on task than in his interview with Stern, Choe tells the story in his own words. Since embedding has been made unavailable by request, please go here to watch the interview it its entirety:

like that will ever happen... police would need to arrest people and the courts would have to fine them whether they say sorry and bow or not.

Zuckerberg obviously suffering from terminal YBF

Facebook founder and CEO Mark Zuckerberg updated his status to "married" on Saturday.

Zuckerberg and 27-year-old Priscilla Chan tied the knot at a small ceremony at his Palo Alto, Calif., home, capping a busy week for the couple, according to a guest authorized to speak for the couple. The person spoke only on the condition of anonymity.

Methinks someone may have watched Dark Shadows recently (I highly recommend it, actually, and I never even knew of the original TV show, let alone saw it...).

But I agree with catone...and note she's also got a powerful set of swimmer's shoulders...guess she's gonna need 'em, though, to carry out around all the money her hubby's gonna make.

FWIW, I'd like Zuckerberg more if he didn't eat roast koala...

Nah, nothing says "MAN" like $19 billion in the bank...
Mind you, if I had $19 billion, first thing I'd buy is a harem, not get married, like Mr. FaceBucks. Mind you, I guess that's probably why I don't have $19 billion in the first place...

That's why I like Leonardo DiCaprio. He's used his fame and fortune to fuck his way through the super model ranks. You have to respect a guy who takes advantage of his situation. Seriously, what is the point of money and success if you don't use it to get the hottest pussy on the planet?
