Yes, good one...

BTW, it's "badge" engineering, and inside the same group it's not a problem. It's when you start seing Toyota IQ with an Aston Martin badge or Mistubishis with a Peugeot Lion that it become cringeworthy...

I've been looking forward to this car for years.

They need to SHOOT whoever decided to let Scion take this car. The only people who buy Scions are old people and people with no taste in cars.

So obviously in the US, the Subaru version is the only real choice.

Yeah, it's about freakin' time the manufacturers got off their trend-following hybrid kick and started making cars that are fun again.

I'm not against "eco friendly," it's just that I really don't believe that hybrid cars are. In fact, the damage done in the process of battery manufacture, and the end-of-life issues, are actually pretty scary. Sure they don't use much gasoline, but they're anti-eco time bombs waiting to go off, if you ask me.

What we really need are, firstly, to maximize gasoline efficiency, and secondly, to find alternate, cleaner fuels.

Just my opinion, of course, but I think I see serious hidden dangers in the electric approach using current battery technology.

And if you wuz into RC planes/helo you'd be sure... There is nothing more dangerous than a LiPo battery (as far as batteries are concerned btw...)... I would never park a Leaf in an enclosed garage. Search Youtube for LiPo fire to understand the problem...

Now for the fun car problem... you might have noticed that more than a few environmental movement don't give a flying frack aboot the environment but are just hell bent in eradicating mankind to preserve the myth of Gaia (benevolent mother earth). They push for pristine untouched earth (being sure to fail) instead of pushing more toward managed exploitation of ressources. A bit like the madmen from Peta... For them it's either man or nature, cohabitation seems absent from their mindset...

Sorry VIKINGbenz, but hotlinking is prohibited by the FG Forums rules (because screws up the archives, slows the image loading time to a crawl and many times the hotlinked pixs will not show up on other people's browsers).
Please use the FG image cache.

Just got the Toyobaru FT86 brochure:

Base model for tuner, unpainted bumpers, no inside plastic trims, iron wheels for delivery: 200 mans

Top of the line GT model, 310 mans...

That's dirt cheap...

The price surprised the heck out of me too.
I have a feeling they're going to sell a few of these.

One to Monsieur Coligny, perchance?

As much as a cheap ass I am, totoyas are the only cars I would not own even if they were given for free, or came with free money.

I see. There was a recent offer of a new model JL421 Badonkadonk Land Cruiser/Tank on the river (Warning: edit of URL needed).

LS, as in the tiny little all aluminum V8 from GM. If it fits in a MX5 it should fit in the 86.

here is a size comparison:
Image

LS3 on the left and a RB26 on the right.

I predict the 86 will have the typical leaky head gasket problem that all subarus tend to have.

I don't see a V8 being an easy upgrade against a boxer engine... especially if you want to be able to close the bonnet...

The Miatas have straight 4, usually V or W engines are a bit shorter. Plus the fact that MX5 have quite straight hoods especially the last gen. Making swaps not to troublesome. Especially with Mazdas who seems to be quite swap friendly, seems you can nearly directly bolt a Renault Laguna engine instead of the rotary one in the RX8.

Meanwhile boxer engines are... de facto... quite flat... pictures of the engine bay of the 86 show the place as being quite busy...

That's insane.

I'm watching the REV SPEED magazine DVD about the 86...

But the fact that's it's going to be a Scion in the US pisses me off to NO extent.

What dumb fuck had this idea? Why would you put your coolest, best new car in 10 years into your shitty brand with your shittiest cars?
