Spider silk spun into violin strings

A Japanese researcher has used thousands of strands of spider silk to spin a set of violin strings.

The strings are said to have a "soft and profound timbre" relative to traditional gut or steel strings.

That may arise from the way the strings are twisted, resulting in a "packing structure" that leaves practically no space between any of the strands.

some day, maybe in 20 years, if i'm ever worthy of such strings i'd like to give them a try. maybe by then i'd be able to hear the difference.

Prof Randy Lewis shows Adam Rutherford genetically modified goats at a farm at Utah State University, US, which produce large quantities of a spider silk that is among the strongest substances known to man.

The transplanted gene means the goat produce milk containing an extra protein, which is extracted and spun into spider silk thread.

There should be one way to produce these strings, not?

I blame the weather, it's 3 days of wind and rainstorm mixed with highly fluctuation humidity and temperature... My aging bones are taking such a pounding that my lower back went full lock down a good part of monday and tuesday...

I dun't need much to lose sanity...
