great to hear. do they take the "donations" that get the kids a scholarship to cover tuition like the large gaishi companies do for their expats?

Tuition Fall Term Winter Term Spring Term
Pre-K & Kindergarten (K3-K5) Y400,000 Y300,000 Y300,000
Elementary G1-G6 Y450,000 Y375,000 Y375,000

I presume these are per term costs for one year. Is that correct -- so for one year we are talking +/- 1,000,000 yens?

How does that compare to other international schools in Tokyo like ASIJ or St. Marys?

It is about half the cost of the top tier schools as the base tuition fees. But as I said, places like St Mary's have kinda a unwritten donation scheme going on - almost like a competition amongst the J- parents about who can donate more.

As a parent of a small child, the thought yearly 2m yen school fees is scary. Japanese yoichien is looking kinda good to us right about now.

Is your husband white? Do you speak the Engrish at home? If so, just throw them in J-school until like age 10. If you're speaking Japanese at home, well, welcome to the battle. Not sure if your situation.

I'll definitely look into this school but I seriously doubt they'll take my son. Something tells me repatriation is not far off.

2 million yen!? I guess the price you are talking about is for international schools in the Kanto area. That's why I left Kanto. So I could have my children receive an international education. Now I pay a little over 1 million a year. I think about 1.1 or at the most 1.2 million a year. It was financially really tough for us at first, but since the school had always kept the prices relatively low, we were able to keep with it.......

My kids went to an international school during their elementary school years, but we made sure they went to the Japanese Yochien, because they teach the children Japanese manners and social etiquette, which I thought was more important than them attending the international school during their whole up-bringing. I think it gives them a great balance.

I recommend you put your kid in a Japanese Yochien, and then put him/her in an international school when moving up to elementary school. Now that's really "international". Only attending an international school also has a lot of limitations, the same as only attending a Japanese school has.
