Let's Futon Talking

Postby gaijinpunch » Wed Apr 11, 2012 12:42 pm

Well God damn... of course I've opened up a can of worms to figure out how these things work. I've got one that I can live w/ but it's quite apparent there will be no pajama parties at my house if I don't up my futon game.

I went to my local futon shop and saw one I liked. No bullshit flowers on it, and they had the double size (140x210). There were two thicknesses though. One weighed 5.5kg and was 15,000, and the other only 6.1kg and was 30,000. Seemed a little cheeky to charge double the price for more "wata".

Joogling around a bit, I found something like this (warning: Rakuten link) that shows a combination of wool and what we yanks call an egg crate. Am I foolish thinking all futons are made of this? I've slept on egg crates before, and they didn't strike me as very comfy. However, the guy did mention the insides were "polyester" or something so I'm assuming it's got ye old crate in it.

What do you sleep on?

i went the fairly cheap route on the actual futon (it was a double muji one), but then found a foam top cushion thing that cost about 25K at Loft, and was SO worth the investment because it was like sleeping on air. (seriously, when i left japan, my friends were outbidding each other for who got to buy it!)
combined that with a very nice goosedown duvet and high thread count cotton linens, and i was never lacking in offers for pyjama parties.

My friend used to have a Tempur-Pedic bed and it was really comfortable. He said it was terrible for fucking though. Not enough spring.

I just have the mattress overlay. The full mattress sinks down when you are in it - not conducive to fucking at all. But then there is always the sofa... or on top of the fridge... :tounge:

Wait... some people can actually feel the fridge vibration !? older with vacuum pumps on silent blocks might have moved a littul... but the new one...you need a laser reflector to detect something (the expensive stuff you aim at windows to spy on conversation inside a room...)

Remind me to take pillz for mah restless leg syndrom next time we eat together... dun't want you husband getting violently raped because of one of mah various psychological disorderz...

Ok, sorry for straying to washing machine's topic just now. Seriously, if you like your matress hard, you may want to consider coconut palm/ fiber matress. Not popular here but I love it personally. Most of my family members back home use this too. It is eco-friendly & not expensive too. I have seen it here at the departmental store & online (though not very common) What you may find here is usually quite thin type, compared to what I use back home, but over here they have the foldable and unfoldable type. For me the thickness does not matter as long as it is really hard. (and can remain hard and lasts for a long time.) Do note that it is quite heavy, probably that is why it is not popular here.

IF I WANTED A HARD BED I'D SLEEP ON THE CONCRETE FLOOR...

Seriously more than 2 nights on a Japanese hotel with there stainless steel-soft mattress and when I wake up I can feel all my muscle acking and I have to indiviually crack all my articulations to have them working... Now I travel with a camping air mattress (that I can't obviously use at home with the kitties)... planning to buy the electric air pump too...

I am from the third world countries, and I thought it did vibrate from the last time I went on top of a fridge, though it was ages ago.. I am quite sure it is warm there though.. and hello, vibration and shaking legs thing are different. One of the things that irritate me the most is seeing others shaking their legs.. you better take you pills or tie up your legs in the next meet up.

About the coconut fiber matress I was talking about, it is still more comfy than probably sleeping on tatami. I believe some people like their matress firm and hard, just as for sofa.

First of all, the golden rule : no tatami, no futon. The floor must be capable of dealing with body sweating and perspiration to avoid condensation.

Obviously when I first replied to GG about vibration, I meant about naughty stuffs as they were also talking about pro-fucking matress. But really, I like my matress/ sofa firm and hard, I even like my towels hard and rough (no need that extra chemical softener!)

Trust me... any restless leg syndrom going fast enough can't be distinguished from a machine induced vibration...

tidbits wrote:I even like my towels hard and rough (no need that extra chemical softener!)

I call these sanding paper... and here even the cats can't stand them... 2 piles of towels, 1 rough, one soft (softener or dryed by the washing masheen) the hard one won't get any affection, while the soft one will need to be washed again to get rid of the cats hairs...

What wrong with you people ?

Yep!

From what I've seen, bang for the buck, a nice vanilla futon is the way to go. I know they are meant to be used on tatami, but that's not an issue right now, and I've had good results using them on hard floor and on carpet. I need something really stiff (badump tssh) and quickly. I will probably go bed and use the futon for guests at some point, but not now.

My solution:

Image

+

Memory foam topper.

Plenty of bounce for romping with lemurs, big enough to fit you and two lemurs, with the memory foam top on it, many lemurs don't realize it's inflatable. 1\10th the price of a futon and easier to pack when you move :D
