I can't, since that pic's either from the original Crisis or Crash. I've only seen the Tokyo 2040 version.

You fool. I stopped watching BGC2040 because the way they changed the characters' personalities made me want to stab someone in the face.

Anyway, from MY left, Leena Yamazaki, Sylia Stingray, Priscilla Asagiri, Nene Romanova.

At the time I watched 2040, it was the only version I had access to. I found Priscilla annoying, not just because of her demeanor, but becuase I knew her voice from somewhere else, and it kept nagging at me because I couldn't remember where.

Maybe Excel Saga?

Oh, you speak of the dub. I know nothing about that. Dub voices drive me to imagined or real violence almost no matter how good or bad they are.

I never listen to dub.

BTW, I just watched the first 4 DVDs of the Excel Saga this week.

WTF is up with Hyatt/Hayato?

BTW, As far as Bubblegum goes, I've never heard of the name Sylia.

I think they mean Shelia and it got "Lost in Translation".

I have only ever seen it romanized as Sylia, I had no reason to believe it was otherwise. She'll be Sylia Stingray to me forever, the character who is technically the leader, proprieter and sugar momma of the Knight Sabers, but always seems to take a backseat to Priss's foolish heroics.

Fair enough. In the Bubblegum Crisis anime series, there was an evil megacorporation named Genom. It produced a series of sentient robots or machines that were roughly humanoid. These machines were called Buuma (or Boomer). In fact, how human-seeming the robots were had to do with what tasks they were supposed to perform. I'll give you an example: sexaroids are designed to provide companionship for their owners and so look like beautiful humans.

Unfortunately, Genom's intentions were not limited to being just an extremely successful hardware, software, and energy company. They desired to conquer the world, and many of their their machines had devices that allowed them to be remotely controlled or influenced. Also, no sentient being likes being made into a slave, so plenty of the machines went maverick and started to hurt humans.

Genom was opposed by the Knight Sabres, an all-female group wearing powersuit armor that allowed them to stand up to maverick Buma and Genom and fight them on their own terms. The bravest and strongest of the Knight Sabres was the girl called Priss, whose romantic exploits often end tragically.

The OAV series (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/B0000507QB/qid=1064668652/sr=1-2/ref=sr_1_2/104-2932888-3023165?v=glance&s=dvd)
is generally regarded as the best of all of the series concerning the adventures of the Knight Sabres. Avoid the dub if you can. Stick with the original Japanese.

THANX! Gomi and I were out of the loop on this one. (Hint: These 'cartoons" are not so important in Japanese and don't make it into mainstream TV/media. Sorry, but it's a real "niche" interest here in Japan.)

Some of them have carried over into the mainstream. Studio Ghibli films like My Neighbor Totoro and Grave of the Fireflies are well known, as are older television series like Battlecruiser Yamato and Lupin the Third.

Hardcore sci-fi anime is pretty out there though... I prefer comedies or historic drama. Maybe I should post a poll?

Good idea. I watch a lot of anime, both mainstream and not, of lots of different genres.
