I am talking about the fact that the Producer of AKB48 is perfectly happy to objectify and commoditise the daughters of others, and I was speculating on whether he would be happy for his own daughter to receive the same treatment ...

I'm quite keen on the idea of having it made obligatory to advertise all products using nubile young lesbians kissing...

Starting to think the director is trying to push out the AV parodies by just making the actual girls into AV idols...

It has just been so done and done that I just get bored. It is so fake that I really don't understand the appeal - but you blokes can't seem to get enough of the fake lesbo thing.

The problem is that you see lots of YouTube vids of teen girls thinking that it is sexy to kiss their friend and put it on the internet. Those vids are just going to come back and haunt them when it is time to find a job or get into Uni. I just see these girls getting caught up in the hype without thinking things through and end up on a girls gone wild vid and regretting it later on.

In my day... there was no YouTube.. ie no evidence of any shenanigans.

I am just old!!

Like Pro Wrestling... not because it's fake or repetitive that it's not enjoyabul...

Stupid people, do stupid things, judgemental people use these meaningless things as proof to feel superior... It's some sort of perfect storm of suckittude...

OK - the pro wrestling connection makes sense.

This is not my point - am not trying to be superior to these girls as I did plenty of silly things when I was young and trying to figure out the world by pushing my boundaries.

My point is that these girls are not necessarily stupid - just young and naive and do things that will haunt them later.

Judgemental - no you have me pegged incorrectly.

Speaking entirely personally, any trouser-stirring feelings of "phwoaar" are easily overridden by the despair of being exposed to AKB48 yet again.

I was not saying this for you since your comment was toward the 'online posting' side of the behaviour... To put it more bluntly:

You: putting it online is not a gud idea -> true
people I wuz aiming my comment at: OMG OMG LESBIUNZ(/SATANISTS/CAT LOVERS/FURRIES/whatever)!!!! BURNZ DEM!!! -> wait ? what ?

Because unless you recruit for the secret service (ahem) usually you don't need to care or know what peeps do off hours... as long as they respect privacy and NDAs from the workplace, everything else is meaningless. Sure employers knows more aboot them than aboot the others employees... but it's borderline -illegal- knowledge, and don't mean the other don't do worse, it highlight a narrow minded spirit where employer care more aboot perception than facts, and it push it to 11 because it's aboot facts that they are not even supposed to know even less to judge in their quality of employer.
It's not because it's there that the boss have a right to watch it (as a boss). It's a bit like when a jury is asked to ignore an evidence that has been found illegally... Complicate... but how it should be...

In the good ol' US of A a company can fire/not hire you for almost any reason unless it falls under a class that is legally protected (minorities, women, old people, the disabled). The latest trend is forcing interviewees and employees to tell their employers their Facebook username and password. America! Land of the Free (if you're a corporation)!

No one can demand a password for anything IMHO.

I would say they can ask what your Facebook handle is - or your public one in any case - in order to check you out some more. Imagine if they ended up hiring you and you have photos of animal sacrifices or other unsavourary material on your FB account and a customer ends up seeing it, then you have tarnished their business reputation by association.

I think they are quite within their rights to check out your on-line presence as a part of the hiring process. How many people from other companies (competitors or suppliers) have you checked on in your work? I know I have looked at the personal FB and twitter pages for people who work in companies that I do business with. I even look at my own staff's twitter and FB from time to time. Just to catch up on news more so than snooping.

But asking for a password is just not on.

A good rule of thumb with SNS - don't write anything that you wouldn't want your Mum to read in the newspaper about you.

Some companies ask for you to "friend" the hiring manager instead of asking for a password. There's nothing on my FB that I think is particularly bad or embarrassing but I still think it's out of line. Plus, with all the puritanical Christian assholes in the US I could see things like a few photos of you with a drink in your hand or smoking a cigar getting you disqualified.

Surely the solution there is to say that you do not have FB. That is not a crime ... yet.

The other solution is to realise that if they are going to be all over your FB account like that, they will micromanage other aspects of your work environment, so maybe better off to run for the hills before it is too late.

They'll definitely run your name or variants through a search engine or LinkedIn...

A buddy of mine in IT was telling me how he would handle the situation if they asked him for his PW:

"As IT Manager of your company I am expected to protect private and personal data to the highest levels possible, and I believe that includes my own personal information as well. Plus it's against FB ToS to give away my password :)"
