North Korea issues unusually specific threat

North Korea's military vowed a new and unusually specific threat to its neighbors, saying it would reduce South Korea "to ashes" in less than four minutes.
The statement, released Monday when programming was interrupted on North Korea's state TV by a special report, comes amid rising tensions on the Korean peninsula.
Earlier this month, North Korea was unsuccessful in a long-range missile launch, prompting worries that North Korea may conduct another nuclear test. South Korean officials say new satellite images show that North Korea has been digging a tunnel in what appears to be preparation for a third atomic test.
According to the Associated Press, the statement from North Korea was unusual in promising something soon and in describing a specific period of time.
The North Korean military threatened to "reduce all the rat-like groups and the bases for provocations to ashes in three or four minutes, (or) in much shorter time, by unprecedented peculiar means and methods of our own style."

If they do attack during GW, I'll be the FG war correspondent. Year before last the DPRK attacked the day I was leaving Seoul so I hope my visiting isn't bad luck.

I agree with you that a direct threat like that would seem to be enough reason for a preemptive strike but my guess is that that the ROK and the US aren't taking the threat too seriously and are more worried about starting a full scale war by hitting *first.

* It wouldn't really he hitting first since the South has been attacked a couple of time in recent years. However, if they weren't willing to hit back after having a ship sunk and having a village bombed I can't imagine they're willing to do so because of some shit talk.

All good points but even if it is only shit talk, this time the gun they're waving is much bigger....I just think they need to have it blown up while their waving it. Full scale war would hit South Korea pretty bad but it would be over fro NK pretty fast...the NK military must knows this which is why they just keep puffing up their chest and making threats, taking shots here and there, followed by more threats. If they really wanted to engage the south in war again, it would have already happened.

Me thinks that if something serious were to happen an incident from the south side of SK or from the east of Japan will occur first. ROK is not retarded and they have been developing a strategy quite a while now.

I also wouldn't say that that missile test was a "failure" neither... wasn't a WMD and they were testing reactions and surrounding systems.

Not sure how much of that Kim Jung Kool-Aid they're really drinkin' but it's only human nature to question it once the damn breaks and suddenly their "enemies, traitors, etc." are offering them food and medical care.
